Fun read with unexpected twists; enough character development to get invested, without ridiculous amounts of detail. Paced quickly enough I didn’t want to put it down & both narrators were excellent!

Not something I typically would have chosen but it came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The narration was especially good—did all voices well without overdoing it.

Historia
Percival Everett's The Trees is a must-listen that opens with a series of brutal murders in the rural town of Money, Mississippi. When a pair of detectives from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation arrive, they meet expected resistance from the local sheriff, his deputy, the coroner, and a string of racist White townsfolk. The murders present a puzzle, for at each crime scene there is a second dead body: that of a man who resembles Emmett Till.

Wonderful kooky story that does not come off as childish; immature-yes, lots of dick jokes but they fit the story perfectly 😎. Narrator is wonderful—chooses just the right tone for each character. Can’t wait for 3rd installment!

Narration was excellent as always with JH. Writing was well executed but the story itself went nowhere…. kept waiting for something to happen ….. pretty sure I only liked the ending because it meant the story was over

Fast-paced fun read. I always enjoy this author but some of his books can be a bit formulaic—this one is not. The story is fresh and interesting and flows well.

Historia
Twenty-five years ago, Maggie Holt and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. Three weeks later they fled in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His horror memoir of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity 17 and skepticism.

Decent story, kept me interested. Protagonist was not particularly likable—this was at least partially due to narrator’s snotty tone but she also came across as shallow so ultimately I didn’t care much what happened to her.

Excellent continuation to the story that started with Locker Nine. Not very extensive character development but that’s not what I expect/want from a Mad Mick story 🤨. Narrator has a great voice for male characters (he IS Connor) but it’s deep with a slight waver so all the women sound like little old hags.

Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid. The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss. Derek’s father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy.

Great listen. Raw story about pain & regrets. Good character development but didn’t lose the pace of the story. I could listen to the narrators voice ALL. DAY . LONG. Good differentiation between voices without being hokey.
