Historia
The groundbreaking trans-genre work of Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) has been insinuating itself into the structure, stance, and very breath of world literature for well over half a century. Multi-layered, self-referential, elusive, and allusive writing is now frequently labelled Borgesian.

Labyrinths by Borges
Revisado: 01-08-25
This is a very fine selection of the stories of Jorge Luis Borges. The Invitation by William Gibson is excellent and really piqued my interest to continue. I very much enjoyed the narrator. He presented Borges very well, and I did not have problems with his pronunciation as did some other reviewers. This is a great collection for anyone who wants to get acquainted with Borges. Another longer collection of his complete Fictions is also available and wonderfully narrated by Castulo Guerra. Borges, in my opinion is one of the world’s great writers.

And here, Professor Heffernan maps the brilliance, passion, humanity, and humor of Joyce's modern Odyssey in these 24 lectures that finally make a beguiling literary masterpiece accessible for anyone willing to give it a chance.

This is an interesting and concise course that leads the listener through James Joyce’s Ulysses. If you have never read Ulysses, you will probably need some help. This course is quite interesting and will ensure that you understand the story Joyce is telling, and do not remain lost or frustrated. It is really well worth the time it takes to listen to it, just as Joyce’s novel is rewarding to anyone who cares to make the effort.

Historia
Joseph Conrad’s multilayered masterpiece tells of one nation's violent revolution and one hero's moral degeneration. Conrad convincingly invents an entire country, Costaguana, and sets it afire as warlords compete for power and a fortune in silver.
Señor Gould, adamant that his silver should not become spoil for his enemies, entrusts it to his faithful longshoreman, Nostromo, a local hero of sorts whom Señor Gould believes to be incorruptible.

Revisado: 11-27-24
Awesome novel by one of the world’s great writers. John Lee did a superb job as narrator. Very few novels that could compete with this one. John Lee really brought it to life and made it easier to follow and comprehend than I could manage on my previous reading. If you enjoy Joseph Conrad’s work, don’t give up on the long and dense Nostromo without giving John Lee a chance. I have been very pleased with this selection. It was time very well spent.

I am delighted that I bought it, and Simon Beale’s narration was perfect. I hope there may be more John LeCarre novels to come from Nick.

From his many years on the high seas as a mariner, mate, and captain, Joseph Conrad created unique works, including Heart of Darkness, that have left an indelible mark on world literature. Elegant, profound, and riveting, Mad, Bad, Dangerous to Know illuminates not only the complex relationships between three of the greatest writers in the English language and their fathers, but also illustrates the surprising ways these men surface in their work. Through these stories of fathers and sons, Tóibín recounts the resistance to English cultural domination, the birth of modern Irish cultural identity, and the extraordinary contributions of these complex and masterful authors.

This is an excellent book, and the author’s narration makes it even better. The first chapter is a brilliant tour through Dublin. All three authors’ fathers are interesting, but if you are into Ulysses or James Joyce, this is a wonderful book to have.

Historia
During the winter solstice, on the shortest day and longest night of the year, the ancient burial chamber at Newgrange is empowered. Its mystifying source is a haunting tale told by locals. Professor O’Kelly believes an archaeologist’s job is to make known only what can be proved. He is undeterred by ghost stories, idle speculation, and caution. Much to the chagrin of the living souls in County Meath. As well as those entombed in the sacred darkness of Newgrange itself. They’re determined to protect the secret of the light, guarded for more than 5,000 years.

Historia
Ulysses is regarded by many as the single most important novel of the 20th century. It tells the story of one day in Dublin, June 16th 1904, largely through the eyes of Stephen Dedalus (Joyce's alter ego from Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man) and Leopold Bloom, an advertising salesman. Both begin a normal day, and both set off on a journey around the streets of Dublin, which eventually brings them into contact with one another.

I have read this several times over the years, but I never realized how great it would be read out loud. If I were reading this for the first time I would listen and read along. It would help you move along. Also: as an aside, and if you are really interested-Patrick Hastings’ Guide to Ulysses provides enough explanation episode by episode to enjoy Joyce’s novel. The audible reading by Norton and Riorden couldn’t be better.
