This book was really just a prelude IMO, because nothing is explained (mainly because the main character is slum rat that doesn’t know much) and the story starts in chapter 47. I really wasn’t in the mood for a LitRPG when I started but the Narrator did SUCH an amazing job and had a huge range of voices that I wouldn’t stop. I did have to rewind a bunch of times because I kept getting lost, I kept hearing the narrator change a voice but couldn’t understand why. It would’ve been nice to understand certain things sooner and I’m still lost as to how the world actually works but hopefully that’s taken care of in the second book.

This book is too full of secrets and unanswered questions. Even when an answer is finally given 10 minutes or even 30 chapters later I don’t care anymore about getting the answer. I feel exactly like Violet does as a reader as to when Xaden hides the truth from her. JUST TELL ME WHAT YOUR HIDING! I understand the need to have some kind of plot devices but hell even Ridoc jokes of how he can’t tolerate this in the book himself. Even Violet keeps secrets from the reader, she says she doesn’t want to be right but we don’t get to know what she wants to be wrong about until I don’t care anymore. I also fail to see how Violet’s second signet is more powerful. But I do love that the author has opened up the lore of the dragons more, but she still hides too much that it makes no sense to keep these lore elements from the reader. We are still not even one step closer to learning about Venin, even though this book was supposed to help us learn what makes Venin or how Venin work. How about instead of spending a whole chapter just hiding a secret you give the reader something to put in the wiki’s. The first book was an introduction, the second was just romance, and this one should’ve been revealing what the main objective should be. Now with only 2 books left will the reader get the gaps of years in Violet’s life or do I get really tasty lore?

Interlude is another word for filler

This is another great story for filler in this book series. It’s an entertaining setup for a finale. I was surprised by the narrator’s pronunciation of cat in Japanese making it sound like ‘neeko’ instead of neko but she’s great with everything else.

Without a doubt this was a “filler” book arc but I’m very happy with it because this is character development at its finest that doesn’t make the main character into a Mary Sue. Which is why I’m leaving a 4 star review even though it’s actually 4.5 stars but I’m loving this series and wondering how things will wrap up. I wish there was a love interest even if it’s just by pure convenience because it would have made certain deaths be more impactful, every thing that seemed like it should have made me cry barely got any emotion out of me. The main character is just a loner and doesn’t need anyone so those deaths are just meh it happened and let’s just get on with it.

I’m not a Herbert fan at all but this was a great story, the science in the science fiction was better than what could have been expected. The narrator’s Irish accent was awesome. I do wish a time was given but I guess this story needs to be plausible in any time.

I was loving the story until it all went to crap in the last 6 or 7 chapters, basically once we learn he has a son that just magically appears in my opinion then is irrelevant for the remainder of the book. Herbert just felt like he wrote things in just to make something happen sort of dues ex machina style. I was upset with the ending in the newest movies and now I realize the book is the same just worse because it’s written like an indie art film. There is SO much lore that I feel we should know but we are expected to just already have knowledge of it cuz it’s just gonna happen. I’m sure it’s fleshed out more in Dune Messiah but I’m done with the series. The narration is weird because they have a full cast but Simon Vance still plays other character’s voices, the only redeeming qualities of the book is how well the other narrators played their parts but they maybe voice them every other chapter. There was no pay off, I just hope I can get my money or credit back.

Awesome mecha, was surprised they put in a PTSD element but glad it wasn’t the focus. Was half expecting the tournament arc and faction arc to be switched. Totally could’ve took this series into a more moral dilemma in corporate ethics. The narrator kept mispronouncing the Japanese words. But overall enjoyed this series.

I like how even Juliet doesn’t want to know her own status. Great cyberpunk story, so many features that I can easily imagine as a game.

This was a very Cyberpunk book that could easily be turned into a game and I enjoyed it for that. I would not classify this as a LitRPG since it doesn’t have a lengthy “status” screen that usually takes up a LitRPG or levels of character or moves. The “status” is more of a ranking system. Either way you get to focus more on the story itself which should always be the focus and Plum Parrot delivered a very enjoyable Cyberpunk story
