Historia
To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?” When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay. Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

Mommy Is the Worst
Revisado: 09-26-24
My god, these parents are awful. I’m not against drinking or adults having fun by any means—even when they have small children—, but these people. And literally no other adults intervene or have a clue.
Plus, the ending is ridiculous. No one talks this way to a small child, and, more importantly, no small child would understand half of what Bella’s parents tell her. This could have been a great book if just a smidgen of reality were present. Hopefully someone will remedy this in a film version (because this would make a GREAT movie!).
Not sure what the dancing was supposed to symbolize or communicate. Authors: don’t add a conceit if you aren’t going to see it through. That’s just lazy.

Historia
Peyote Trip has a pretty good gig in the deals department on the fifth floor of Hell. Sure, none of the pens work, the coffee machine has been out of order for a century, and the only drink on offer is Jägermeister, but Pey has a plan—and all he needs is one last member of the Harrison family to sell their soul.

The Woman Narrator Is Incredibly Annoying
Revisado: 09-17-24
This is the second book I haven’t been able to finish because of this woman. She’s so, so whiny. Also, the dramatic intake of breath following the end of clauses/sentences is absolutely ridiculous. People need to stop hiring her to read their books unless said books are the equivalent of Sex and the City of Gossip Girl or Fifty Shades.

The names of notorious serial killers are usually well-known; they echo in the news and in public consciousness. But most people have never heard of Israel Keyes, one of the most ambitious and terrifying serial killers in modern history American Predator is the ambitious culmination of years of interviews with key figures in law enforcement and in Keyes's life, and research uncovered from classified FBI files. Callahan takes us on a journey into the chilling, nightmarish mind of a relentless killer, and to the limitations of traditional law enforcement.

Really annoying reader
Revisado: 01-28-21
The woman reading this (very good) book sounds like a robot. Absolutely zero emotion. The writing and story is great, but a bad reader can really disrupt a listener’s enjoyment. Read it in a physical copy if you can.
