First Time Disappointed

This is the first time I have been disappointed in an Audible book. I've read Scumble River Mysteries in the past but this one just didn't catch my attention, which I attribute to Christine Leto's reading (her voice "bothered" me) more than the story. Also, the story is not one of Denise Swanson's best!

Whether I am reading or listening to a book I expect it to grab me in the first chapter. I know it can take a bit more for a good book to establish a story but generally it must reach out and pull me in right away. This one does not!! Add that to the fact that it seems to get worse as it goes along--well, I stopped listening after the third chapter.

It's true, this is the first time I have been disappointed in an audiobook so I guess that is a good track record.

I have been reading and listening to each of the books in this series and have not been disappointed in any of them. They seem to get better as the author goes along, but maybe that is true of most writers. When I am reading or listening to a book with an involved plot, a moving subject or just bogging down, I stop and pick up one of the bibliophile mysteries and instantly feel lighter and more entertained. I hope Kate Carlisle never stops writing this series!!

This is a good story with typical Patterson energy and excitement. The award, however, goes to Joe Mantegna who narrated so effectively that after a chapter or two I forgot there was only one person reading! Characters stood out and their individual feelings and personalities became familiar. Mantegna never seemed to forget which character was speaking. It made me chuckle at the thought of him changing costumes for each one.

All in all, Patterson seldom disappoints and in the case of Judge & Jury, Joe Mantegna makes sure of it.
