Darcy is either dim witted or doesn't really love Lizzy as much as he says. otherwise why would he leave her alone so many times with crazy villians. It’s just stupid.

No tolerance of bad behavior for the excuse of "propriety". Honestly, I can't imagine that more people in Regency England didn't hold others accountable for bad behavior. This was a refreshing read.

"Let's dump spoiled, angry Mrs. Bennet on the Collins. We sure don't want to be bothered with her." Basically, that's the storyline. And after Fanny reeks havoc, just wait until Lydia shows up out of nowhere. What a s**t show.

Pro: Fairly good story with improved virtual voice.
Cons: Be prepared if you don't like to be evangelized during your JAFF time. About half way through, after you've become interested in the variation, full Bible verses start being expounded. Mostly by a weak kneed damsel named Elizabeth. She occasionally shows some backbone and self determination, but this is no heroine to be admired for her indomitable strength. Quoting the bible in response to adversity instead of her traditional rapier wit. And the further in, the more depressingly conservative and mealy mouth she becomes, allowing Darcy, Lady Matlock and even ANNE DeBerg to rescue her from her foes. This is no P&P Elizabeth Bennet Darcy.
A absolutely watered down imitation. Sad.

British accent is good, but pronunciations are definately lacking. I wouldn't spend money on it.

For the record, I'm American. And I love trilogies, so I bought all three. I really, really wanted to like this. For a background book it's okay. The storyline has real potential.

But.......

I don't believe that Regency Brits were this emotional (like 21st century Americans). "Stiff upper lip" and all that, not a quivering chin. Way more tears, eyes welling and downright sobbing than I've heard in the last twenty books of JAFF. But I'm American, so I can overlook it.

The villians; Wickham, Lady Catherine, Ms. Bingley, Mrs Bennet, etc. plus a new character, are all pulled from the same diagnostic manual. Malignant narcisists. Not alot of personality deviation. Same basic person, just cut and paste the name. Somewhat lazy writing.

The narration. Sigh..... The narration. Mostly good but... Be prepared for hugely overly exaggerated posh accents in the titled characters. And non-British pronunciations The ton...like the weight rather than the dawn. Valet with no t), Choppter, for chapter, It goes on and on. For goodness sake, watch Downtown Abbey. Or Bridgerton. Or better yet....Pride and Predudice.

Okay, I'm a grammar snob so the mispronounced words really bugged me. It's so basic. But so integral to the experience.

And btw, it's the "Cut Direct", not the direct cut.

Lady Catherine's voice for Lizzie?

The story is good but undermined by vocal casting. While Ms.Dixon is without doubt talented, her voice is far too... mature for a 20ish maiden. It's like listening to Lady Catherine being courted by Darcy. Like casting Dame Judi Dench (love her) as Lizzie rather than Kiera Knightly.
We are visual beings, even in our imaginations. And our voices age as we do. Just because we can't see their beautiful gray hair, it does not mean that we don't know it's there.

Sooooo many disagreements. It's a good story, a good premise, but everytime that they start to get alongone or the other gets angry again on some trifling mistake. annoying.

If you are looking for an easy listening and uplifting listen this is it. Set the timer and fall asleep to the mellifluous Stevie Z. But be sure to note your place for the morning, as she will lull you to gentle slumber before a chapter sails by. Goodnight to the cares of your day.
