Narrator is good except for mispronunciations.
Revisado: 01-15-25
Does anyone research how to pronounce words anymore? This is very frustrating. Jung is not pronounced like young. Also the reader butchers the author Eliade. Come on. Anything that borders on the occult or esoteric people butcher. I really enjoy Jung’s work, so please stop butchering his name.

Good Narrator. I love books written in the animal point of view. Had to listen to this after White Fang, which was another great listen on audible.

Historia
What’s to be done about a jaywalking moose? A bear caught breaking and entering? A murderous tree? Three hundred years ago, animals that broke the law would be assigned legal representation and put on trial. These days, as New York Times best-selling author Mary Roach discovers, the answers are best found not in jurisprudence but in science: the curious science of human-wildlife conflict, a discipline at the crossroads of human behavior and wildlife biology.

If you haven’t experienced Mary Roach, you haven’t truely lived! She makes the mundane and grotesque hilarious. And she narrates this one herself! She is so witty and clever. I’m always waiting for a new Mary Roach book to come out. Such a treat!!

Historia
That the dog evolved from the wolf is an accepted fact of evolution and history, but the question of how wolf became dog has remained a mystery, obscured by myth and legend. How the Dog Became the Dog posits that dog was an evolutionary inevitability in the nature of the wolf and its human soul mate. The natural temperament and social structure of humans and wolves are so similar that as soon as they met on the trail they recognized themselves in each other.

Okay, this is pretty entertaining for a book about boring science stuff, but what’s the point of getting Paul Rudd to Voice Act Einstein if you’re not going to make him talk in Einstein’s accent!!!

Disappointing to say the least
Revisado: 06-20-23
This book seems more of a beginning guide to Horowitz’s modern brand of self indulgent occultism.
I have been into Alchemy and the occult for over ten years now. The tittle made me think this would be a guide to Manly P Halls teachings instead, it seems to be a cry for occultism to be a respected religion.
Many points he makes are trying to set the record straight that occultism and secret societies are misunderstood by internet conspiracies. The Illuminati is misunderstood and the pentagram is misunderstood and so on and so forth.
Most people with an interest in Manly P Hall are well beyond the naive tin foil hat stage and continually pointing out generalized “internet conspiracy theories” takes away from the great ideas in the secrets of all ages.
This is the same generalized generic arguments the media has against so called conspiracy theorists, a term that anybody with any skin in the game knows was pushed into the American lexicon by a corrupt CIA and FBI of the 1960s to dismiss people who had questions about JFK’s very public assassination.
I find attacking droves of people as internet conspiracy theorists instead of entering a fair unbiased discussion on the subject the most intellectual bankrupt thing anyone can do, and find it disappointing to see Manly P Hall used to facilitate such Low IQ arguments. It makes the mispronunciation of Occult words and Historic figures even more irritating than it already is.

Edit Better was made for video editors who consider themselves advanced hobbyists or growth-minded professionals, artists who know that the tools of editing matter far less than the knowledge of how to use those tools powerfully. This audiobook does not illuminate the workings of Avid, Final Cut, or Premiere, and is not a meditation on film editing. What it is: a provocative, wide-ranging collection of strategies and tactics for the creative application of TV and video editing, no matter your editing tools.

Great Book (I already want to read it again.)
Revisado: 02-10-22
I recently got a minor in Screenwriting and that’s how I got into editing, because my professor felt like knowing how to edit well is a good way to break into the industry whether you want to write or direct.
This book really seems like it could be a master class in a screenwriting or film making degree. A must have for creative types.
I devoured it. I’ve been busy with work lately and haven’t been listening to audible or reading for that matter as much as I have in the last few years, but I still found time to listen and burned through it in a couple days.
Get this if you’re new to film editing, it helps clarify the basics, putting things you’ve probably been struggling with in perspective. I am definitely going to be reading this one again.

Historia
A study of the spiritual provocations to be found in the work of Philip K. Dick, Terence McKenna, and Robert Anton Wilson, High Weirdness charts the emergence of a new psychedelic spirituality that arose from the American counterculture of the 1970s. These three authors changed the way millions of readers thought, dreamed, and experienced reality - but how did their writings reflect, as well as shape, the seismic cultural shifts taking place in America?

If you are a fan of Terrence McKenna this is offensive
Revisado: 01-05-22
The writer cherry picks things Dennis and Terrence said in their twenties. Seems to misrepresent Terrence based off things Dennis said in the screaming abyss and totally misses the point on a lot of Terrance’s insights. Terrence had a massive rare book collection that burnt in a fire and this guy acts as if Terrence just made things up. I disagree Terrence was a genius about the occult and this guy seems to be not immersed enough in esoterica or psychedelics to come to the scathing reductionist conclusions he did.
I tried to listen to this but, being someone who has listened and read a lot of McKenna this is outright a misrepresentation of a genius within the psychedelic community. The narrator mispronounces a lot of words, and does a grotesque impression of Terrence that makes him sound like an extreme dork.
Go on YouTube and listen to the many great lectures Terrence gave for free and don’t waste your time or money on this drivel.
