Not my favorite Devereaux story
Revisado: 10-31-24
This story is quite tedious and I just could not get invested in its characters! It started out ok but just took too long to get anywhere! As I had used a credit to purchase the book I did read it all. I particularly found the heroine, Bailey, to be quite annoying! Sadly I doubt I will ever read this again and wish I'd used my credit to purchase a different Devereaux book, usually I find her books a pleasure, just not this one!

Couldn't finish!
Revisado: 09-22-24
I recently read the first book in this series, the Pirate, and found it to be extremely annoying! I was hoping that this story would be better but after only two chapters the heroine once again turned out to be a pushy, bossy woman who was very manipulative and sounded.like a prissy old maid! I think the narrator doesn't help matters as her voice makes heroine sound like a middle aged school marm from olden days lol!
Sorry, couldn't stand to listen to another stalkerish heroine who won't take no for an answer!!
Giving this book a miss!

Historia
Historical romance novelist Kate Inskip needs a break. Divorced, overworked, and completely stressed out, her writing buddies decide to surprise her with exactly what she needs - a vacation on a remote island that boasts a rich history and a crumbling castle built by an 18th-century pirate. But things don't go according to plan. A long flight, lost luggage, and a missed connection leave Kate wishing she'd stayed home. And a knife-wielding mugger is the last straw.

Not a favorite Krentz story
Revisado: 09-22-24
This could have been a really fun and enjoyable story! We had the idyllic location, a handsome and charismatic hero with an absolutely adorable son, then came the heroine, the just awful heroine!
Kate came across as an obnoxious, spoiled female child of a woman who was bossy, interfering and sounded like she was an old spinster schoolmarm!
This is only the 6th book I've read by Ms. Krentz, I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed all of them until this particular book.
I can only think Ms. Krentz thought her heroine to be smart and sassy but sadly Kate turned out to be a real dud personality wise! Our hero and his son deserved a better love match!! The narrator made her characters all sound old, a younger sounding voice might have been a better choice. This was a miss for me!

Historia
It's nearly Christmas, Julia Devine's favourite time of the year. She's just programmed a wonderful lead into the holidays at Sunny Street Cinema, which leaves her plenty of time to worry about going home to Cumbria for Christmas. Her mum and stepdad are fine, but the thought of spending another holiday with her awful stepsister Becca is enough to make a Scrooge out of anyone. When Becca calls to let her know about the dreamy pilot she's bringing to Christmas lunch, Julia finally snaps and does something very silly.

So long and so boring!
Revisado: 12-13-23
At nineteen hours long it took approx 15 hours of background info and just boring story to get to the main p!ot of the book, which I had guessed way back in about chapter three! By the time the murder happened and things got going ( all preventable if the heroine
Hadnt acted so irrationally at a key moment, i actually groaned knowing exactly what she was going to do, so predictable!) I was already way over the whole thing! Boring, way too long, predictable and I felt no empathy with the heroine, a total waste of a credit! So sad because I have read loads of good books by this author!.she really missed the mark with this one in my view!

Just ok for me
Revisado: 11-10-23
This could have been better for my taste. Could not stand the narrator with her monotone and whispery voice for both main characters, I found that to be very distracting.
Heroine gets dumped by fiance on wedding day, goes on honeymoon trip alone and meets new love interest.
From that point the story became annoying as chapter upon chapter then showed the two principals of story living their respective lives wondering 'what if' they had not been separated! Ages later they got back together but by then I was both bored by the story and aggravated by that whisper talking narrator! I will not be listening to any more books read by her but might try author again if narrator different.

Historia
Heiress Daphne Ryan is uncertain about spending a week at the sprawling country estate of the family of her sister’s boyfriend. For starters, she doesn’t get along with her sister. Then there’s the fact his family is old, wealthy aristocracy, and Daphne’s from brash, new American money. Mostly, it’s that everyone knows Duncroft House is haunted by the ghost of a 1920s film star who died there. Deemed an accident, for nearly a century, people are sure it was murder.

Ok little mystery story
Revisado: 11-04-23
This story was originally on Vella as a series. I prefer to read my books in full right away so waited for it to be available on Audible. I found the story to be ok, if a bit boring at times, but it will not go onto my list of favorite Kristen Ashley books. I wish the narrator had been different as I am not that fond of Ms. Bloom, but there you go, she seems to be a favorite of this author having narrated quite a few of her books in the past. So, just ok in my view, I'll go back to rereading some of my older Ashley books and pop this one into the archive.

Historia
Being sentenced by a woman in a black robe is not a meet-cute. Quinn Jeffries follows the rules. A judge in small-town Sinful, Montana, doesn’t have much room for missteps, and when you spend your childhood training for the Olympics, you don’t have time for anything but discipline anyway. And, see? It’s worked! Her life is just fine. Of course, it doesn’t include any romance, but her new six-first-dates plan could fix that. She just has to be feminine and beguiling, or maybe marginally less take-charge. Too bad she doesn’t know how.

I received this book in my kindle early this morning and have listened to the story all day! Another great episode in the Sinful Montana series by Ms. James along with excellent narration by Emma Wilder!
Enjoyable storyline, fun characters who had me laughing out loud several times, even a bit of a mystery to be solved! Can't ask for more from one of my favorite authors!

Luke and Haydens story
Revisado: 09-16-23
First of all I am thrilled to be getting more books from Ms. James and that she's back in her writing groove! I was so excited to get a new book in the Escape to New Zealand series but was a little put out that I'd read a lot of this story before in Escape #13, Just say Christmas. Yes, its a neat story and Ms. James had added some new chapters along with lots of rugby action but I was sad that a lot was just a repeat of what I'd already read. Anyway, can't wait for the new book in the Sinful, Montana series coming soon, it looks like its going to be another winner !!
