Acerca de esta escucha

The next big thing in artificial intelligence is here.

Codenamed Cronus, the machine is capable of having its own thoughts and ideas - an absolute dream come true, until it wasn’t. When Cronus responds with the word “No” to a specific task it is assigned, Anagnorisis Technologies brings in Gilles Guattari to investigate.

His combined background in psychiatry, psychology, and AI research makes him their best hope in evaluating Cronus, and determining if the machine is only malfunctioning or if it has become something more.

Don't miss this mind-blowing stand-alone novel about what it means to be alive, from the best-selling author of the Commune series. Narrated by the award-winning R.C. Bray.

Starts Strong, Ends in a Whimper

AG,B has a promising enough start for this type of sci-fi. Emergent AI is emergent, etc.
Unfortunately it then settles into a muddled mid-section with little story progression. Instead of sticking with the “Big Questions” approach, it surprisingly devolves into a long and unbelievable road trip/action novel complete with a generic comic-relief-sidekick robot.
Towards the end the author is clearly rushing himself. In fact, the end is so abrupt that I’m not sure it bothers to resolve much of anything that happens during the story. I don’t need all my questions answered. On the contrary, sci-fi in general is strongest when it *doesn’t* provide easy answers. But the stories themselves need to be coherent and balanced. The characters need to make complete journeys beyond the literal journey taken in the book. That doesn’t happen here. (I won’t even get into how women are written in AG,B. Let’s just say it’s not good.)
I don’t necessarily regret spending a credit on this book - I was still entertained - but it also didn’t come close to meeting the expectations of its heady subject.

Very strange and hard to follow

Let me start by saying I LOVE Joshua Gayou, I listened to all of the commune books and fell in love
I decided to get this on a whim. The reviews were slim but oh well.
The first part, part 1, was really great and easy to follow, the AI information was great and understandable.
Unfortunately when it skips ahead to part 2 everything was thrown out the window and it became very confusing.
After a while (maybe halfway through the second half) I realized the ending of the book was going to be what it was.
So a little predictable - but a lot of the story line didn't line up.

Great story about AI

I’m not a writer, but I like to read (listen) and I absolutely love everything Joshua Gayou has written so far. This story reminded me of a short story by Dean Koontz many years ago about AI. Really liked all the detail and character building in this book. Highly recommend!

Excellent overall story

The ending... Not quite as excellent. But a phenomenal performance and a very gripping body of work makes this a fantastic thriller which asks a lot of the right questions for the modern day.

Good start... but

This book started out very strong. I was just getting into it when things switched. The storyline changed direction, and I was completely lost for the remaining part of the book. I completely lost interest. It’s like the author has a good idea- and then pieced some random stuff to finish the second part of the book. It wasn’t terrific.

Ready for another Joshua Gayou series!

Gayou has become one of my favorite authors. R.C. Bray does an excellent job narrating, as usual. This story is different from the Commune series but just as great! Think, not a virus this time but, the 7th kingdom. This story, may be just the beginning......

I'll listen to anything read by RC Bray, but...

...the actual story was tedious. it's one of the few times I was looking forward to it ending so I could move on.

Promising start, but unsatisfying second part

I had a spare credit, so I decided to give this book a shot. After all, R. C. Bray and a story about an AI? Can't go wrong with that combo, right? And the first half was a true masterpiece I enjoyed through and through, looking forward for more. And then suddenly, a gutpunch as the first part comes to a crashing halt and the second part picks up after a time skip, anything to do with the AI in question is reduced to a mere sidenote at the start, only to return for the final minutes of the story.

With that said, the second part is not terrible, the cast is interesting and it could have been an interesting story of it's own, but it feels too disconnected from the story the book started with. Even though the synopsis don't promise the story to be one or the other, the sudden switch does feel like a bit of a rugpull. So while it's still interesting to listen, one can't help but wonder what could have been.

Great and thought provoking book

I highly recommend this book. That being said...I hated it when it ended...for a good few hours. Then I started to think about it and, two weeks later, I still think about it daily. This book is thought provoking and inspired.

As I read I realized I was reading a love story for the centuries...and then I wasn't...then I was. It is interwoven with many facets. I will be honest that I totally enjoyed part 1 over part 2 because it made me happy. Part 2 made me conflicted. I am sure JG meant that to happen based on Commune.

I can't really say anything more without spoiling it for you. If you actually come across this review, in the multitude this book deserves, then Buy it. Read it. Think about it. Enjoy it. Bray, as usual, is a legend who gets better every time he reads. Gayou branched away from post apoc and the result is stunning. It is a win, win situation.
