Acerca de esta escucha
A road map for building strong and secure relationships for those who struggle with anxiety in their romantic connections.
An estimated 47 million Americans identify as having an anxious attachment style, which can make being in relationships turbulent and emotionally taxing for them. According to groundbreaking research in the field of attachment, anxious types are more prone to insecurity, jealousy, codependency, and other behaviors that get in the way of finding and sustaining love. In Anxiously Attached, seasoned psychotherapist and couples counselor Jessica Baum guides listeners through understanding their attachment style at its core and building the inner strength and self-love that will lead them to more secure and satisfying relationships.
Developed over ten years in private practice, Baum’s signature Self-full® Method has helped her clients get off the toxic roller coaster of anxious attachment and discover the secure and mutually supportive relationships they deserve. In this book readers will learn how to:
- Create boundaries to safeguard their sense of self-sovereignty in relationships
- Communicate to their partners what they need to feel safe and secure in the relationship
- Develop a secure sense of self-worth and emotional stability
- Learn the true meaning of a healthy/interdependent relationship and how to establish one with their partner or future partner.
- Discover a compassionate path towards healing through experiences like mediation practices where they can start to develop more insight into their internal landscape.
- Attain a deep understanding of the anxious-avoidant dance that is extremely common in intimacy struggles.
Anxiously Attached offers a practical and holistic approach for overcoming anxious attachment issues to discover happier, more fulfilling relationships.

Millions of people around the world have insecure attachment styles. Anxious attachment is a common form of insecure attachment, and it creates worry and distrust in relationships. Twenty percent of all people have an anxious attachment style, which makes it hard for those people to build relationships that feel safe. Being in a relationship without knowing how to share your feelings and receive your partner’s feelings in useful ways is like jumping into a pool without knowing how to swim. You can flail around all you want, but it’s not going to keep you afloat for very long—you need to be able to move in any direction at will. Like swimming, knowing how to share your feelings and respond to your partner's feelings will move your relationship in the direction you want: toward more intimacy, closeness, connection, and trust.

Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Historia
If you were raised to believe that painful emotions are a sign of weakness, or if being vulnerable has always made you feel unsafe, then you may have survived by creating a perfect-looking life - a life where you appear to be successful, engaged, and always there for others. The problem? You're filled with self-criticism and shame, and you can't allow yourself to express fear, anger, loss, or grief. You recognize something is wrong, but you're not sure what exactly - only that you feel trapped and alone. If this sounds like you, you may have perfectly hidden depression (PHD).

Drawing on the Buddhist concept of mindfulness, How to Be an Adult in Relationships explores five hallmarks of mindful loving and how they play a key role in our relationships throughout life.

So relatable
If you have ever felt anxiety that likely wasn’t helpful or necessary in a romantic relationship OR if you tend to lose yourself in hopes to keep your partner happy, this book may help.
I wasn’t very familiar with attachment styles, and hearing this explained made me feel so seen and understood. I feel that often the first step towards healing is understanding what’s going on. She gives you suggestions for exercises that can help you figure out the root cause of the issues and begin the process of overcoming your anxiety.
Simply being aware of this behavior, and how it might not serve you could be helpful. I definitely recommend this book.
The author reads the book in a lovely way, but her way of speaking is a bit slow for my taste so I did listen to it sped up. Just a tip in case you’re a faster talker/listener like me.
