An Amazon Charts and Washington Post best seller

A novel of love, courage, and danger unfolds as World War II’s brightest heroines - the best of friends - take on the front lines.

1944: Fiona Denning has her entire future planned out. She’ll work in city hall, marry her fiancé when he returns from the war, and settle down in the Boston suburbs. But when her fiancé is reported missing after being shot down in Germany, Fiona’s long-held plans are shattered.

Determined to learn her fiancé’s fate, Fiona leaves Boston to volunteer overseas as a Red Cross Clubmobile girl, recruiting her two best friends to come along. There’s the outspoken Viviana, who is more than happy to quit her secretarial job for a taste of adventure. Then there’s Dottie, a shy music teacher whose melodious talents are sure to bring heart and hope to the boys on the front lines.

Chosen for their inner strength and outer charm, the trio isn’t prepared for the daunting challenges of war. But through it all come new friendships and romances, unforeseen dangers, and unexpected dreams. As the three friends begin to understand the real reasons they all came to the front, their courage and camaraderie will see them through some of the best and worst times of their lives.

Entertaining yet predictable

The narration was excellent which was probably the best part. The story was interesting only because I’ve never thought about women in combat zones during WWII Unfortunately it was very predictable. Light hearted banter and occasional painful escapades will fill up your time but not be memorable.

An awesome, original story

I loved this book. The story was so original and extremely well done. I learned a lot about a part of WWII I had never heard of before. I loved the characters and was sorry to see the book end.

Amazing in so many ways!

I loved this story so much. It was a story of great friendships and love found in unexpected places, during a time of uncertainty throughout the world. Often, I would laugh with these brave ladies, and, just as often, cry, as they bravely kept going with smiles on their faces, through unimaginable circumstances. Definitely one of the best books I’ve “read” in a very long time. Do not hesitate to choose this awesome book - Author and narrator are in a class all their own.

A remarkable story well performed!

I wasn’t sure if I would listen to the whole book. Once I started I could not stop. I went from 8pm to about 5am! Even with a degree in American history tho was my first encounter with stories of women in the European Theater of Operations. It was a refreshing perspective and filled with historical events with which I was unfamiliar. And told in a highly engaging style. My experience with women authors writing about The War is that too often it is related in a masculine voice redolent with statements of fact. To be presented with experience told in women’s voices from women’s perspectives was marvelous. It’s a five star read/listen! Look forward to doing it all again soon!

Very sweet book.

My mom and dad were in their teens during WWII, so I knew lots of people who lived through the war. The characters ring true, and the book tells the sad story of the war without being graphic but at the same time not missing the seriousness of the times. I cried tears of joy and sorrow.
