This was an easy book to listen to. the characters are believable and the transitions between them are seamless. The unexpected twist and turns keep the reader wanting more. it's the kind of book, you simply want to listen to from beginning to end. not a thinking kind of story, just an easy old fashion story.

Story
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Listened to this book over 4 yrs ago. Still think about it quite often. It will have you laughing and crying. Author has done a marvelous job of giving us life details from our best friend and how they must think of us. I honestly believe my 120# goldendoodle was the one telling this story. Can't recommend it enough.
