Lord and Lady Sarre cordially invite you to spend Christmas at Sarre Park. Celebrate among old friends and, perhaps, a gate-crasher or two. There will be wassailers and kissing-boughs; music, dancing, and romance; laughter and some tears. And above all, expect the unexpected because at Christmas, anything can happen.

Story
Monsters and beasts roamed the earth and were slain by soldiers and adventurers who were, in turn, killed by stronger threats. Heroes and villains created new epics and were forgotten when their successors appeared. This was the way of the Infinite World. Summoned into this chaotic place, a young boy with no name and no past must learn to survive. Bound to a master who doesn't care whether he lives or dies, he must become stronger. The question is: how?

If I had read the summary more thoroughly before buying this, I probably would have chosen another book, and I would have really missed out, because I had so much fun reading this one. I will definitely continue with the series. Highly recommended :) It feels fresh!

This second addition to the series adds new viewpoints and advances the main plot line considerably. It also has one of my favorite scenes, involving Maquin. No spoilers though, you’ll have to read it to know what I’m talking about. Even better the second time around. Narrator is great!

I loved all three books in this omnibus! They fit together seamlessly with an overarching storyline that kept my interest firmly attuned throughout the many adventures. The characters were wonderful, and NOT cookie cutter. There were unexpected twists and the friendships forged felt achingly real. I highly encourage any fantasy lover to snag a copy of this! Plus the length is awesome :)

Lily is a photojournalist in search of the “animal people” who supposedly haunt the city’s darkest slums. Hank is a slumdweller who knows the bad streets all too well. One night, in a brutal incident, their two lives collide - uptown Lily and downtown Hank, each with a quest and a role to play in the secret drama of the city’s oldest inhabitants. For the animal people walk among us. Native Americans call them the First People, but they have never left, and they claim the city for their own.

Patricia Briggs is not an author who can be tucked into a generic genre box. There’s something special about her writing. I love that this book focuses on a family - a mother and children figuring out the mystery of the father’s disappearance and traveling to rescue him. So many cool aspects and perspectives.

I can’t tell you how many, many books I’ve read during my life. This book is one of my favorites. So is the whole series. It just has that intangible element that’s only present in the best books, that magic something that transcends boundaries of age, culture, and reality. I think I’ll have to return to this world soon. Don’t miss out :)
