It’s a good story. The characters are fun and poignant, but oh that narrator! During the action scenes she sounds like the television version of a high school drama teacher that thinks she is on Broadway! Oddly enough her voice for Iona sounds disturbingly like Dorthy from The Wizard of Oz. I kept waiting to hear about how Toto wouldn’t bite anyone!

It was an okay story that dragged for a bit. I’ve heard better Nora Roberts books but I’ve also heard worse.

I LOVE Julie Garwood books - every single one. This is the first one I’ve done in audible form and for the most part it was good. The story is wonderful and I adore the characters. However, I found the narrator distracting and sometimes annoying. Obviously her English characters were good - she is English. The Scottish voices however sounded,to me, sometimes Scottish, sometimes Russian and oddly enough something that reminded me of the stereotype of a New York Jewish person. All the male characters voices were strained and raspy, and all the children’s were high pitched, squeaky, and mouse like. Maybe I should stick to Julie Garwood in book format, or just make sure to avoid this narrator in the future!
