Good story. Noticing a pattern in these free books
Reviewed: 11-21-20
Seeing a pattern in these freebies from audible. Not very subtle, three out of four books ive listened to so far fit it. The one that didnt was a Jules Verne book written in another, better time.

I hate this type of writing. The author is the only one that gets it. Im sure "smart people will say im wrong and shoehorn some deep meaning into it. Its like slam poetry or interpretive dance. Annoying and self important. Ill be getting a refund.

Story
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

White people sure get trashed a few times. We dont make enough of their movies. Maybe they should invent a hollywood equivelent and then there would be plenty of their movies made. The author refers to whites as Americans, i thought Alaska was a state. And "colonialism" is thrown in for good measure. I could relate with a lot of what was said by the author about the pride he has in his culture and his people.

Under the orders of Roboute Guilliman, he is deployed to Almace, a minor seat of the Ecclesiarchy, to protect the world at whatever cost. Yet even as diabolical forces leer from the system's edge, Calder discovers that the capital's Cardinal-Governor, a sharp, inscrutable figure of spiritual and material authority, is hiding something. Story
Father of cyberpunk William Gibson’s original script for Alien III, written in 1987 as a sequel to Aliens, never made it to our screens, although it went on to achieve cult status among fans as the third instalment that might have been after being leaked online. This terrifying, cinematic multicast dramatisation - directed by the multi-award-winning Dirk Maggs - is the chance to experience William Gibson’s untold story and its terrifying, claustrophobic and dark encounters between humans and aliens, as a completely immersive audio experience.

I liked the story more than the movie. Seemed like it had holes though. Jumped around too much. Acting was good. But the author got rid of extra characters the as much as the film did. Overall it entertains. I guess thats something the film didnt do.

Story
Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip - a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfre. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there - which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier.

Story
The stories of 15 combat veterans featured in this audiobook tell of the experiences of average Americans who fought US enemies on Pacific islands, in China, and in Burma during World War II. They relate much previously unavailable information about the military in which they served and the battles they fought. The possibility of death and permanent physical and mental injury was a common experience. This audiobook is a "must listen" for those who think they have learned all there is to know about World War II.
