Story
State Road 177 runs along the Suwannee River, between Fargo, Georgia, and the Okefenokee Swamp. Drive that route from east to west, and you'll cross six bridges. Take it from west to east, and you might find seven. But you'd better hope not. Titus and Melanie Bell leave their hotel in Fargo for a second honeymoon canoeing the Okefenokee Swamp. But shortly before they reach their destination, they draw up to a halt at the edge of a rickety bridge with old stone pilings, with room for only one car....

This book was a lot more fun than I expected. Mostly enjoyed the characters, some were a bit frustrating and some felt like they could have had bigger roles. All together though, fleshed out just enough to make the story work. Great example of not too much, nor too little. The narration was for the most part very good and suiting to the story, although one voice grated on me a bit. Not enough to ruin anything though. I liked it.

I very much dislike vitual voice narration. This was one of the first I'd listened to and I will probably avoid a book because of it in the future. It's too bad because the story was alright but really could have benefited from a good reader. Would likely try another book by the author but maybe not if it's vitual voice.

Story
After a tragic accident at work, all Grady Miller wanted was an escape. He finds it months later with two of his closest friends. Together, the three of them travel south to Prism Lake for the upcoming holiday, where they plan on spending the sunny weekend drinking, grilling, and relaxing. But when a series of monstrous blizzards cover the Eastern United States in feet of snow, knocking out communications and making the roads impossible to drive on, they realize their weekend of fun could turn into a lifetime of survival.

This was fairly well put together. I always enjoy Matt Godfrey as a narrator so that helped bring me to this book, but I stuck around because the story was good too.

Sure don't like virtual voice nareation

I hate leaving a poor review but, I honestly didn't really care for this. I think the big think for me is the virtual narration, it's awful. I understand that maybe it one of the only ways some authors can afford to get an audiobook released, I don't know, but it will certainly turn me away from future releases. The story was 1/2 the movie aliens, dialog and all then a part event horizon. It did eventually find it's own feet and that wasn't bad at all, but by that point I was kinda turned off. At the time I listened it was available on audible plus. if it still is give it a go and decide for yourself.

I have read/listened to another book by this author and thoroughly enjoyed it, this was not a let down. I will certainly be looking into more of his work. Fun story, excellently narrated. The reader was very well suited to the story I thought. Although I did sort of see the ending coming it was very well executed, and was satisfying. The setting and atmosphere were particularly well put together.

This story is not a feel good light hearted romp. It is horrible, depressing, and relentlessly downtodden. But isn't that some great horror?! Worth the listen. The only complaint I had was that the writing seemed a little poorly editied and the audio recording did as well. I kind expected a little more polish from a big hitter like Keene. Still, it wont spoil the book so dive in and beware the white fuzz!
