Honestly, I could not get through this book. The narrator just didn’t keep my interest and neither did the story. I LOVE books set in Cornwall- but with this one, I TRIED but had to quit several chapters in.

This was a Bookclub selection for our December meeting. It was very sweet and I especially enjoyed listening to Fanny Flagg reading the audio version.

Story
Each December, the faculty of Balaclava Agricultural College goes wild with holiday decorations. The entire campus glitters with Christmas lights, save for one dark spot: the home of Professor Peter Shandy. But after years of resisting the school's Illumination festival, Shandy suddenly snaps, installing a million-watt display of flashing lights and blaring music perfectly calculated to drive his neighbors mad. Then the horticulturalist flees town, planning to spend Christmas on a tramp steamer. He returns home to find his lights extinguished - and a dead librarian in his living room.

Fairly boring to be honest

I enjoy listening to Christmas books once it hits December to start getting into the spirit of everything… I usually enjoy a break from the heartfelt warm and cozy stories. But this one just didn’t spark my interest at all. I. HAD to finish because it was a Bookclub selection, but if it was my choice, I would’ve quit halfway through. It was just really dull and seemed to drone on.. The great narration was the only thing that kept me going!

When it hits December, I try to listen to only Christmas books – so it was nice to fine this “suspense Christmas” book! The narrator was great, the characters interesting with all of their stories and murder mystery suspense was a enjoyable reprieve from the normal heartwarming Christmas stories

A Fluffy Christmas romance
Reviewed: 12-01-24
This was super fluffy – meaning it had very little substance. Predictable romance. If you want to feel good holiday story, then this is one for you. I could only get about halfway through before I had to stop and fix my eyes that rolled backwards in their sockets because it was so annoying. Sorry to say.
