Story
London awakes one morning to find itself besieged by a sky full of floating icebergs. Destroyed oil rigs, mysteriously reborn, clamber from the sea and onto the land, driven by an obscure purpose. An anatomy student cuts open a cadaver to discover impossibly intricate designs carved into a corpse’s bones—designs clearly present from birth, bearing mute testimony to . . . what?

If I remember correctly I purchased this book because of a positive review on NPR. I think the problem I had with this title was that the stories all ran together. You're listening along then all of a sudden the characters and plot are different and you're not sure what happened...so you go back and try to figure out how the previous story ended.....and (for me) it was too much work. I get these books for either enjoyment or to learn something - sometimes both. This book didn't fulfill either. I finally gave up on it when the "timer" said it was about half done and moved on to a better book.

An entertaining listen

I really liked this book. The pace was fast and the narration was excellent. Even though it followed several main characters, the story was woven together well and kept my interest, I'm looking forward to book 3.

Story
From the former communications director for the White House and current political media strategist comes a suspenseful and smart novel about the first female president and all dramas and deceptions she faces both in politics and in love. Eighteen Acres, a description used by political insiders when referring to the White House complex, follows the first female President of the United States, Charlotte Kramer, and her staff as they take on dangerous threats.

In my initial review I wrote that I liked the story but not the narration. I'm not changing this part of the review. However, I mistakenly said that book 3 of the series "Madam President" was narrated by the same reviewer. I realize now that it is a different narrator and I'm looking forward to listening to this book.
