Story
Two days before Christmas 1996, the broken, battered body of Sophie Toscan du Plantier was found outside her vacation home in West Cork, a serene region on Ireland’s idyllic southern coast. Decades later, no one has been charged with the murder, but the aggrieved inhabitants of West Cork are convinced they know who did it - and he still lives among them.

Really fascinating and addictive listen

This is really engrossing. If you have an interest in true crime titles, you’ll definitely have to listen to this. But even if you don’t this is just haunting. The great blend of artful narration to present details paired with real interviews with those involved and a light occasional haunting theme music reminds me of HBO’s The Jinx about Durst. This is a must listen to title. I hope Audible does more like this.

This is book 4 in a series. Audible isn't showing the series properly and book 4 came out first and confused many buyers which is a shame as I'm sure that affected the love of these stories to unexpectedly plop late into the series, so the books come in this order.
#1 Binding Vows
#2 Silent Vows
#3 Redeeming Vows
#4 Highland Shifter
#5 Highland Protector (not out in Audiobook yet)
This is a GREAT series, funny, serious, lots of twists and turns, and parts will make you cry. Love the books. AND the narration by David Monteath is PERFECT and frankly that alone is worth the listen. It's great to hear a Scottish man read for the male characters for a change as it really adds to those characters in an addictive sexy way. He's now one of my favorite "readers" (and I've heard many).
The books blend time travel, history, battles, humor, suspense, magick and romance (and some sex) in just the right blend. Each book picks up pretty much where the previous book leaves off and you'll want to go through the next all as soon as each one. It's more a tale of all these great characters, so it's a great family tale not just a romance based on "where can we insert plenty of sex scenes".
While some argue there's enough explanation in each to have them stand alone, since characters' histories and actions span multiple books, do yourself a favor and read them in order!!
Love these books, hope this series continues on and on....

Story
Students are spooked at the San Francisco School of Fine Arts, and Lily is called in to search for possible paranormal activity. In return she's been promised a trunkful of Victorian-era clothes recently discovered in a school storage closet. But Lily finds something else: the body of a wealthy patron of the school. In between running the store and seeing her new boyfriend, Max - a "mythbuster" who is uncomfortable with her witchcraft - she uses her sleuthing skills to try to solve the murder. Soon Lily senses something from the school's vintage clothes, but it's not the smell of mothballs - it's the unmistakable aura of evil intent.

Another nice addition to this series!

Where does A Cast-Off Coven rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I liked the book, I have decided to read all her titles, I like the characters.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
It had twists and turns, more so that the first in the series. Still more of a cozy mystery with a nice witchy twist.
Which character – as performed by Xe Sands – was your favorite?
Lilly Ivory, she has a calm determination that comes across more as a real person than just a book character, like you are talking with her.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No, but bought all the other audiobooks by this author.
Any additional comments?
Nice series, cool to have a nice Pagan twist to a cozy mystery series and fashion too boot!

Hang in there narration gets better if you do
Reviewed: 11-10-13
What did you love best about Shadow Music?
I liked that it was a continuation of other Highland romance novels by Julie Garwood. Its's cool to hear what happened to characters from another novel, that's a smart touch. For instance The Bride and then next The Wedding share connected characters and then The Secret, Ransom, and Shadow Music share characters in common. I am also planning to read Shadow Dance which is set in current time but refers historically to the characters in this story arc which I think is an interesting angle. So, they are all good stories and I recommend them if you like Highland Romances (and who doesn't?).
Who was your favorite character and why?
Colm MacHugh since he's strong yet empathetic.
Which character – as performed by Rosalyn Landor – was your favorite?
I didn't care for Rosalyn Landor's narration on this title. At first, during the heavy french/swiss back story part of this title, her over exaggerated french accent and haughty tone was really annoying. But, I stuck with it and then as the story progressed to Scotland, I was able to ride out her narration. She's narrated other books I've listened too and I haven't had this problem.
I always buy Unabridged titles only, but, Davina Porter who narrates the Abridged title is an amazing reader. I really wish she had read the Unabridged title also. I love books Davina Reads (Outlander series, etc.)
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Colm is reunited with his injured brother.
Any additional comments?
The Bride, The Wedding, The Secret & Ransom are better. I'd start with those. And since characters continue through books, I'd read the books in order. Audible doesn't show that a view series option for some of these. I learned it from the author's website. In order they are:
The Bride
The Wedding
The Secret
Ransom
Shadow Music
Shadow Dance

Cute light-hearted witchy mystery...
Reviewed: 09-03-13
If you could sum up Secondhand Spirits in three words, what would they be?
Pleasant, quick-read, enjoyable
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot was good, but, simpler than many mysteries. It's a lighthearted mystery that's not too heavy, technical, etc. The characters are pleasant, so it's entertaining. Not a nail biter, but, I liked it enough to want to read/listen to the rest of the series. I like the main characters. I also like that's a mystical title as I like a little supernatural fun and wish there were might wiccan themed fiction.
What does Xe Sands bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
A lot of reviews complained about the narrator and I admit AT FIRST she read with a southern accent that sounded like it was trying to be sexy, but, that lessened after the first bit and just became a Texas type southern accent and I got used to it and I could ignore it. It fits the character in my opinion and am glad I did not go by reviews that said to skip this book because of the narrator. Actually, her calm voice and the first person POV of the book makes you feel like you are listening to a friend talk not being lectured to by a scholar, so I actually have grown to like Xe Sands' narration.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No extreme reaction, just a pleasant simple fun mystery.
Any additional comments?
As a reader, give the narration a try, don't skip the book if the synopsis appeals to you. I'd like more plot development from the auther, Agatha Christie or Elzabeth Peters would be prime examples of slightly deeper mysteries that can still balance humor and comfy characters you love.
