If you listen to nothing else, listen to this play. Very raw. Very real. It brings into focus, with painful clarity, what it means to be sacrificed "for the good of the State".

Poetry is largely meant to be heard aloud and listening to it is a new dimension of experience. Pennington is an excellent reader, though some sections feel a bit rushed. My main complaint isn't a big one. the Table of Contents isn't accurate. more than one poem is crammed under the heading of another, making it tricky to navigate. This does not, however, diminish the overall listening experience.

I wish I'd found this book sooner. Decluttering is something I've struggled with all my life, but this makes sense in a way that other methods haven't. I plan to listen to it again and plunge full-steam ahead into a less stressful living environment.

Eugene Onegin

Eugene Onegin, not to give any spoilers, contains one of the best heroines in classic literature. Tatyana has deep feeling, remarkable growth, and, what is rare in romantic literature, common sense. I like that this version keeps the rhyming meter of the poem as well. Translation is always a tricky thing and, not reading Russian, I can't speak to its accuracy in reflecting the original material, but this is one of the more readable (or listenable) versions I've found. It's an interesting trick that though Onegin is the titular character of the story, one could argue it is as much, if not more, about Tatyana; she has a greater character arc.

How do you reconcile the absolute freedom of choice with logical, enlightened self interest? This is the core question of this strange and complex story with a compelling, though repellent, antihero. It isn't a story to take at face value.

This is a powerful story, even if you are unfamiliar with the characters' inspiration and only have a passing understanding of "fridging". Definitely worth a listen.

Zorro is always an entertaining, if predictable, adventure. B. J. Harrison does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life.

This is the first Shakespeariian play that I ever read and, as such, it holds a place in my heart. More than that, it is still entertaining, preblematic (as most good plays are), and genuinely funny. Definitely worth a listen.
