Story
Thomas Pitt is now the powerful head of Britain’s Special Branch, and some people fear that he may have been promoted beyond his abilities. His own self-doubt is fueled by rumors of a plot to blow up connections on the Dover–London rail line, on which Austrian duke Alois Habsburg is soon to travel. But why destroy an entire train to kill one obscure Austrian royal? Are the rumors designed to distract police from an even more devastating plot?

Story
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Liked everything about this book. It is a great series!! There’s always interesting historical social information built in to add depth. I love Jenny Sterling as the voice talent, although I think she had a little struggle with the french names and switching from characters but I don’t speak french so it might have just been my perception.

I enjoyed this performance very much. I think hearing it made the more enjoyable for me as it was easier to follow the characters as the names of some were so similar. Hearing the dialogue in different voices enable me to keep the male and female characters straight. The story had many layers to it and took time to get to the mystery but that did not detract from my desire to get back to listening.

With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Stayed in my car just to continue listening
Reviewed: 11-12-23
My friends recommended this book but for some reason I hesitated. I’m glad I didn’t pass this story by. More than just the brief blurb to pique your interest—- The many characters, complex and in a complex time, were well developed. The backstories, the emotions, the pushes and pulls not glossed over. This was one book I stayed in my car to finish the chapter. And, although it is now a series you can watch on TV and I’m looking forward to see it—I’m glad I read the book FIRST.

Story
Taking place three years after The Bean Trees, Taylor is now dating a musician named Jax and has officially adopted Turtle. But when a lawyer for the Cherokee Nation begins to investigate the adoption—their new life together begins to crumble. Depicting the clash between fierce family love and tribal law, poverty and means, abandonment and belonging, Pigs in Heaven is a morally wrenching, gently humorous work of fiction that speaks equally to the head and the heart.

I REALLY enjoyed the performance of this word. So rich in character development— the humor and pathos; the insights into human nature and the manipulation of church and state in the thoughtful telling of this incredible young woman’s achievements, integrity, and faith. It will be one I will listen to again.

Prodigal Summer weaves together three stories of human love within a larger tapestry of lives in southern Appalachia. At the heart of these intertwined narratives is a den of coyotes that have recently migrated into the region. Deanna Wolfe, a reclusive wildlife biologist, watches them from an isolated mountain cabin where she is caught off-guard by Eddie Bondo, a young hunter who comes to invade her most private spaces and her solitary life.
