Gripping Story

It's easy to forget that wars are fought by real men fighting real machines and risking their lives to accomplish the mission. And even Admirals allow their desire for glory to get in the way of their mission. They too are only human.

Story
The modern world is a place of great distraction, and it can be difficult to make sense of our human existence. But at some point in our lives, we may experience particular moments that prompt us to search for something deeper. Sociologist Peter Berger described these hints and clues as "signals of transcendence" that awaken us to unseen realities. Os Guinness tells stories of people who experienced signals of transcendence and followed them to find new meaning and purpose in life.

Story
The History of Protestantism by J. A. Wylie is an incredibly inspiring work. It pulls back the divine curtain and reveals God's hand in the affairs of his church during the Protestant Reformation. Throughout the centuries, the sacrifices and victories of God's faithful people have often been obscured and forgotten. Now, once again, you can listen to the fascinating story of how truth triumphed over error, principle over falsehood, and light over darkness.

Story
The Second World Wars examines how combat unfolded in the air, at sea, and on land to show how distinct conflicts among disparate combatants coalesced into one interconnected global war. Drawing on 3,000 years of military history, Victor Davis Hanson argues that despite its novel industrial barbarity, neither the war's origins nor its geography were unusual. Nor was its ultimate outcome surprising. The Axis powers were well prepared to win limited border conflicts, but once they blundered into global war, they had no hope of victory.

It was a good "read." Hanson really brings the messy complexity of the war, both its good and its bad, together in a cogent format.

Story
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

A well-written and well-read bit of entertainment. Yes, it got a little fantastical at times, but it could even be close to truth- not the Seal, but the government-corportate corruption probably is closer to the truth than we would like.

Story
In Disunited Nations, geopolitical strategist Peter Zeihan presents a series of counterintuitive arguments about the future of a world where trade agreements are coming apart and international institutions are losing their power. Germany will decline as the most powerful country in Europe, with France taking its place. Every country should prepare for the collapse of China, not North Korea. We are already seeing, as Zeihan predicts, a shift in outlook on the Middle East: it is no longer Iran that is the region’s most dangerous threat, but Saudi Arabia.
