Story
Adventurers seek dungeons for riches. Heroes storm great fortresses. Gods clash far above. Arek cooks lasagna and tops it with a dash of finely chopped basil. An orc who has seen more than his fair amount of fighting, Arek wants nothing more than to spend the rest of his days cooking and away from the chaos of combat. However, when Ming and her group of adventurers hire him as their full-time chef, his plans of avoiding violence crumble. He longs to leave his blood-soaked mistakes in his past, but old friends and foes have different ideas.

this was a great fantasy that offers a good balance of action, slice of life and great recipes worth trying. only thing I wish was that there was an accompanying pdf with the recipes so I don't have to keep rewinding to write down the recipes.

Story
After a tragic mistake, Erevan finds himself transported to the work camp in Altheria. To the nobility, it’s an island-bound rehabilitation complex run by a powerful warden and staffed with short-tempered guards. To the inmates, ‘Alty’ is really a massive, city-sized prison. Thrown in with criminal humans, dwarves, and other races, Erevan must learn to navigate the island’s complex social system, as well as survive the sanctioned duels—the warden’s method of managing the convict’s anger and aggression. In Altheria, Erevan learns new smithing skills and forges unexpected alliances.

better than expected

I enjoyed this slice of life story far ore than I expected. it's a nice change frome the typical isikai or redo fantasy story. I also think it's a good recommendation for older teens who are struggling with their own identity in life. A fair bit of swearing in the dialog but it helps add more authenticity and relatability.

Story
We live in a world of seeds. From our morning toast to the cotton in our clothes, they are quite literally the stuff and staff of life, supporting diets, economies, and civilizations around the globe. Just as the search for nutmeg and the humble peppercorn drove the Age of Discovery, so did coffee beans help fuel the Enlightenment and cottonseed help spark the Industrial Revolution. And from the fall of Rome to the Arab Spring, the fate of nations continues to hinge on the seeds of a Middle Eastern grass known as wheat.

This book is packed full of great historical stories and it covers a lot of information about stuff I didn't know that I would have loved to learn in school and growing up. I homeschool our kids and have already put this on their required reading/listening list.
