Story
December 1941. America teeters on the brink of war, and in Honolulu, Hawaii, police detective Joe McGrady is assigned to investigate a homicide that will change his life forever. The trail of murder he uncovers will lead him across the Pacific, far from home and the woman he loves; and though the U.S. doesn't know it yet, a Japanese fleet is already steaming toward Pearl Harbor. Spanning the entirety of World War II, Five Decembers is a beautiful, masterful, powerful novel that will live in your memory forever.

The sound was the worst I have ever experienced with Audible. I couldn't finish the book. I can't properly rate the reader because it sounded so awful.

Story
It started with a splash. Jimmy, a homeless veteran grappling with PTSD, did his best to pretend he hadn't heard it - the sound of something heavy falling into the Tyne at the height of an argument between two men on the riverbank. Not his fight. Then he sees the headline: Girl in Missing Dad Plea. The girl, Carrie, reminds him of someone he lost, and this makes his mind up: it's time to stop hiding from his past. But telling Carrie what he heard - or thought he heard - turns out to be just the beginning of the story.

I don't know why Trevor Wood is not that well known. His characters are complex and he tells a great story. David Nellist is perfect.

Pete Fernandez is a mess. He’s on the brink of being fired from his middle-management newspaper job. His fiancée has up and left him. Now, after the sudden death of his father, he’s back in his hometown of Miami, slowly drinking himself into oblivion. But when a coworker he barely knows asks Pete to locate a missing daughter, Pete finds himself dragged into a tale of murder, drugs, double-crosses, and memories bursting from the black heart of the Miami underworld - and, shockingly, his father’s past.

Well conceived plot... Excellent character development. I want to follow Pete on his self discovery journey. Narrator a bit tentative early on but did find his rhythm and place. Looking forward to book 2.
Happy to discover a new (to me) exciting author. 🤸

Compelling Story. Excellent Narration

TJP once again tells a captivating tale. The sixties were my coming of age years and he captured it well. Matt's (the protagonist, not the narrator) journey is believable and honest. The characters nuanced and authentic.
Listening to the sample I first was skeptical of Matt Godfrey's voice having just finished a reading by Will Patton. Glad I changed gears. Mr. Godfrey's presentation this story was perfect.

Story
When it comes to law and order, East Texas plays by its own rules - a fact that Darren Mathews, a black Texas Ranger, knows all too well. Deeply ambivalent about growing up black in the Lone Star State, he was the first in his family to get as far away from Texas as he could. Until duty called him home. When his allegiance to his roots puts his job in jeopardy, he travels up Highway 59 to the small town of Lark, where two murders - a black lawyer from Chicago and a local white woman - have stirred up a hornet's nest of resentment.

Completely formula. I guess it's true that you get what you pay for. Starts you out in a terror scene with precious little character development. Disappointing
