Following the devastating attack on Yaresh, its people are left to pick up the pieces. The city lies in ruins, but its decimated defenders have more to deal with than just reconstruction. Jason's actions during the battle have brought unwelcome attention from allies and enemies alike. While the adventurers question his loyalty, the messengers question his very nature. Both have designs on Jason that he intends to thwart, but a danger comes to light that shifts everyone's agenda.

As good as the others. That being said, it is a whole book of build up. There are still epic moments but the big battles will happen in the next book.

If 14-year-old Cassandra Reed makes it through her first day at Miss Castwell’s Institute for the Magical Instruction of Young Ladies without anyone discovering her secret, maybe, just maybe, she’ll let herself believe that she really does belong at Miss Castwell’s. Except Cassandra Reed’s real name is Sarah Smith and up until now, she lived her whole life in the Warren, serving a magical family, the Winters, as all non-magical “Snipes” are bound by magical Guardian law to do. That is, until one day, Sarah accidentally levitates Mrs. Winter’s favorite vase in the parlor....

What a lift up
Reviewed: 01-14-23
I loved this book! It’s not often I set aside all my worries and tasks to listen to a book. Molly has written a book had darkness in it that Sarah fights, but in a way that also doesn’t feel heavy. The world feels heavy right now, but this book is hopeful. The twists don’t feel impossible, yet believable for Sarah to accomplish, and I needed that. I was looking for a book like this and I’m so incredibly thankful to this author!

Story
Elmer Robbins has survived thousands of Adventurers delving through his dungeon, but the holiday-obsessed Dungeon Core is in danger. The threat doesn’t stem from some powerful Adventurer or world-ending crisis set to destroy his Core, but from his own success. With a limitation set upon him from the Gods and Goddesses of his new world, he soon hits a wall in his development that could end up destroying him because of an overabundance of Life Force he is forced to absorb from slain Adventurers in his dungeon.

The Heliothropes have opened up another dimensional wound, and now it’s up to Milton and his crew to locate the Stabilizing Anchor holding the wound open and destroy it before the connection between two dimensions stabilizes completely. It should be fairly easy, as they had done the same thing on Sandra’s planet, but there’s a problem.

This installment of the core convergence series had a really fun combination of characters from other series written by Johnathan Brooks. I have enjoyed seeing old favorites again and seeing how they work together and how their powers interact has given new depth to previous characters.

Story
The world teeters on the brink of destruction. The people who should be saving the Earth ignore Jason Asano's warnings and choose to loot the house as it burns down around them. He lacks the strength to save the world himself, but resolves to do it anyway, impossible be damned. The impossible, in this case, means seizing a power that no mortal should touch. It's a choice from which there is no turning back, and marks Jason's first step into a wider cosmos that he is not yet ready to face. Holding the fate of two worlds in his hands, Jason must decide for himself what home truly means.

I love novellas because they do not beat about the bush. There is a story to be told and they get the job done right. This novella is packed with fourth of July fun and still managed to pack in some plot movement.

I decided that Orion Lake needed to die after the second time he saved my life. Everyone loves Orion Lake. Everyone else, that is. Far as I’m concerned, he can keep his flashy combat magic to himself. I’m not joining his pack of adoring fans. I don’t need help surviving the Scholomance, even if they do. Forget the hordes of monsters and cursed artifacts; I’m probably the most dangerous thing in the place. Just give me a chance and I’ll level mountains and kill untold millions, making myself the dark queen of the world.

Fantastic story that is even better with narration
Reviewed: 06-27-22
This story has the magical-ness of Harry Potter, the creepy monsters as if it should be horror, and a feisty main character that can handle all of this and still have an upbeat, though very sarcastic, attitude. I loved the story the first time I read it and now the narration just adds depth to the characters.

This book does not require you to have read Johnathan Brooks' other work, but I do think that that is where all the payoff is. It is a fun concept, to combine multiple magic and scientific systems to bring this book to new heights.

If you have liked the previous books in this series, then I can't see any way that you won't love this book. This book hade laughing so hard that I couldn't catch my breath and it did so while still managing to balance epic battles and huge leaps in plot progression. It is safe to say that this is my new favorite in this series. I have no idea Ryan Rimmel will top this, but I look forward to seeing him do it.

Elmer Robbins has somehow managed to survive his new existence as a dungeon core, despite everything working against him. After first creating a Christmas-themed section and then a Valentine’s Day-themed series of rooms, he began to acquire enough life force from unfortunate adventurers dying inside of his dungeon, allowing him to repeatedly increase his core level. Now as he advances yet another level, he can feel the barrier inside of his core becoming thinner, which is bringing him closer to being reunited with his wife’s soul.
