Keep looking for a narrator
Reviewed: 10-09-23
I am one of John Sandford’s biggest fans, he’s the one that got me started on audiobooks. I know they had had extremely hard shoes to fill finding a new narrator but this guy is definitely not the right one. I’m really disappointed that since it was Lucas and Virgil together, they didn’t use Eric Conger, he would have been a more enjoyable narrator.

Story
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

11 and 12 year olds having sex in the sewer with a monster waiting around the corner??? You gotta be kidding me. The book started off not too badly but went on way too long and got more tedious and more like a Junior High kid wrote it the farther along it got. Seems like when the dialogue begin to wan more cursing was just thrown in to take up space. The book could potentially be a couple of hours shorter if all the meaningless cursing was cut out. I always try to finish a book I start but this one took some heavy determination to get through. By the end I was just thankful it was done and I could mark it as finished. I’m disgusted with myself for wasting a credit on a book I can’t believe was even published and turned into a movie.

I did enjoy the first part of the story, up to him saving Alice….after that for me the book became sophomoric and cliched. I was very disappointed in that part. I very much enjoy Stephen King’s novels but questioned did he really write the end of this one???

Did not care for the characters in this book
Reviewed: 06-06-14
I really was disappointed in this book. I kept thinking that the main character telling the story would get it...........the world is not black and white, people have flaws........she never did. The book was extremely juvenile and the main character was obnoxious. Made myself finish it thinking something would happen to fix the bad but it didn't. Truly unrealistic.

This is one of the most well-written books I've read and I have read many! This is such a touching story. The way the story is written is why it is such a page turner, you have to keep reading to find out why the characters feel the way they do. This book definitely touched my heart. The reader did so much to enhance this novel as much as any I've encountered, she was amazing in her inflection. Many thanks for having novels such as this for download.

It is September 1919: Twenty-one-year-old Tristan Sadler takes a train from London to Norwich to deliver a package of letters to the sister of Will Bancroft, the man he fought alongside during the Great War. But the letters are not the real reason for Tristan's visit. He can no longer keep a secret and has finally found the courage to unburden himself of it. As Tristan recounts the horrific details of what to him became a senseless war, he also speaks of his friendship with Will - from their first meeting on the training grounds at Aldershot to their farewell in the trenches of northern France.

From the author of The Power of One comes a new novel about Africa. The time is 1939. White South Africa is a deeply divided nation with many of the Afrikaner people fanatically opposed to the English. The world is also on the brink of war, and South Africa elects to fight for the Allied cause against Germany. Six-year-old Tom Fitzsaxby finds himself in The Boys Farm, an orphanage in a remote town in the high mountains, where the Afrikaners side fiercely with Hitler's Germany.

Many thanks to Audible for having this classic among their treasures. Have not had a better told story in a long time.
