Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

this book covers the russian meddling in the 2016 election. idk if it could be considered definitive but it is interesting. I could have done without the reader putting on a Russian accent whenever quoting Russians. I guess they were trying to hammer home what was and wasnt said by Russians.

This audio book goes over the history of the Catholic church and occasionally touches on what Catholics believe. This covers the good and bad actions of the Catholic church and individuals associated with it. It humanizes an institution in a way that, for someone outside of it like me, can be hard to appreciate. Course it is made up of people so why wouldn't it be human? ;)

Story
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Story
In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding. His starting point is moral intuition - the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right.

This book will probably be a shock to American liberals or to anyone who thinks they are right and that is all there is to it. I hope this curbs the sentiment, I sometimes see spoken by liberals, of wanting all conservatives gone. the right and the left, in America and abroad, seem to be playing for all or nothing with the health of their nations hanging in the balance. Haidt's ideas could be the first steps in putting our the health of all nations back on the ground and becoming respectful to one another. perhaps more so than ever before. good book. my elephant leans toward Haidt.

Story
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

though the title does not suggest it, this book is quite balanced. hitchens does not hold back in expressing his distaste for religion but it isnt a rant and isnt merely a book full of hatred. had a secular religious person written a similar book i would expect a similar bias going in the other way.

Story
In this explosive new book, Sam Harris tears down the wall between scientific facts and human values, arguing that most people are simply mistaken about the relationship between morality and the rest of human knowledge. Harris urges us to think about morality in terms of human and animal well-being, viewing the experiences of conscious creatures as peaks and valleys on a "moral landscape".

I enjoyed it a lot and Sam is a great narrator. The bit on psyopaths is intense. Many peaks in the moral landscape allow for many experiences to be good and the many valleys allow for criticism. of those that arent.

Story
In this short book, Sam Harris and Maajid Nawaz invite you to join an urgently needed conversation: Is Islam a religion of peace or war? Is it amenable to reform? Why do so many Muslims seem drawn to extremism? What do words like Islamism, jihadism, and fundamentalism mean in today's world? Remarkable for the breadth and depth of its analysis, this dialogue between a famous atheist and a former radical is all the more startling for its decorum. Harris and Nawaz have produced something genuinely new: they engage one of the most polarizing issues of our time - fearlessly and fully - and actually make progress.
