Not the best finish.

Entertaining overall but shifted gears entirely late in the novel and ending with something that honestly didn't actually make sense. If that bothers you, skip it. If you like an interesting story that keeps you guessing, regardless of being impossible to solve on your own, go for it!

What did you love best about One Step Too Far?
That things weren't as they appeared.
Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Knowelden and Paul Fox ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, and I thought they did a good job.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When you realized what had actually happened and your heart just breaks.
Any additional comments?
I don't really understand what other reviewers said about it not being a mystery or that the characters were unlikable, Gone Girl, there you have hateful characters, not here. I suppose I can understand how some might find it slow, a lot of time is spent showing you all the characters and how they fit together around the "event" that sent Emily running. I enjoyed it and didn't find it boring. Overall, a great book! Well worth the credit.

What disappointed you about You?
It was boring, long winded, monotonous and simply stupid.
Has You turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I love thrillers, this was just an awful example of them.
What about Santino Fontana’s performance did you like?
He did an excellent job with what he was given.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
The overwhelming feeling that I wanted, not only my money back, but my time.
Any additional comments?
If you like the monotonous droning of some nut jobs every mundane thought for hours on end, go for it, if not, please do yourself a favor and skip it.

Story
Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

Story was captivating but the performance?
Reviewed: 05-29-13
If you could sum up NOS4A2 in three words, what would they be?
Engrossing, entertaining, fun.
What other book might you compare NOS4A2 to and why?
Heart Shaped Box, same author, though I think he has improved since that time, similar supernatural horror.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kate Mulgrew?
Not entirely sure. I rarely have a problem with a narrator, most do a good job, even those whom others complain about. This narrator sounds like a 65 year old, lifelong smoker and makes half her characters sound the same. It was annoying and distracting and I kept wishing it was anyone but her.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed the story as a whole, it was so much fun, I listened as much and as often as I could, aside from the narrator, definitely worth the credit!

Story
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Is there anything you would change about this book?
One likeable character would be a great start.
What was most disappointing about Gillian Flynn’s story?
Going to avoid spoilers, in case you choose to listen to this book, but my general opinion is as follows. Many people talked about the "many twists and turns," there were a few but I didn't find any that surprising, maybe I just read too many psychological thrillers but everything was pretty well laid out by the half way point, surprises over. Plus, you should always have at least one decent person in the story, even if it's an antihero that you root for despite their shortcomings, not in this one. Also, it was lengthy for the story and got boring at times. I kept waiting for things to get better, for the twists making the time worth while, for people in the book to at least get what was coming to them, but it didn't happen. I was so excited about this book after enjoying, "Dark Places," so much, but I was truly disappointed and would recommend that you skip this one entirely.
What does Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
They did a great job with the characters, reading each so well. You could have known who was speaking without being told.
Do you think Gone Girl needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No, it ended so badly that I follow up would be torturous.
Any additional comments?
If you would like a great book with great characters and fantastic twists try anything by Lisa Gardner. "Love You More," was excellent.

Story
The second, riveting novel from Bram Stoker Award-winner Jack Ketchum, Hide and Seek is a book about games. Reckless, dangerous games. Games you might even want to play yourself if you're with the right people. But shouldn't. Not ever… In a small Maine town, a group of thrill seeking college kids finds a game of hide and seek in an abandoned house turning into a reality of stark terror.

Not what I expected.

In a word, boring, if I was reading it, instead of listening while doing other things, I wouldn't have even bothered to finish it. I expected suspense and entertainment but what I got was a slow moving coming of age story that ends in game of Hide and Seek (the last hour and a half). Yes, their are games played throughout but they aren't really the suspenseful, entertaining kind. If you are looking for an edge of your seat thriller, look elsewhere. I do like thought provoking suspense but this wasn't even that. Don't waste your time on this one, even if is only five and a half hours.
