Story
When a banished witch falls in love with the legendary trickster Loki, she risks the wrath of the gods in this moving, subversive debut novel that reimagines Norse mythology. Angrboda’s story begins where most witches' tales end: with a burning. A punishment from Odin for refusing to provide him with knowledge of the future, the fire leaves Angrboda injured and powerless, and she flees into the farthest reaches of a remote forest. There she is found by a man who reveals himself to be Loki, and her initial distrust of him transforms into a deep and abiding love.

Narrator sounds like gravel

The story is great. My one issue is that the voicing for Thor, Odin, or other non-Loki male characters sounds really raspy and is off-putting. I almost couldn’t finish because of that. That’s the only problem. Im sure that’s just an individual experience. The story is beautiful and elegantly written. The characters are likable. The female voicing is nice to listen to on the other hand.

Story
What is it about men anyway? Bad cars, bad jobs, even bad teeth - nothing convinces them that they can't snare a size-two babe with a D-cup chest. And after way too many Internet dates with men named "luvstick" and "bigdaddy182", Lucy Rothschild should know. But sitting across from her now is "hardluvnman", and he seems different - sensitive, honest, and hot! He says he's a plumber while Lucy claims she's a nurse. She's really a mystery writer, dating online while researching her next book.

Pretty funny

Was looking for something light hearted and funny, this fairly hit the bill. The description of the murders was a little freaky but not traumatizing. Definitely brought a fresh twist to the romance genre. Characters were likable, dialogue was cute and engaging

This is definitely a well done version of Cleopatra Selene’s story. There are a lot of books that try to do the same but this one really breathes life into the characters and their journeys- one of my personal favorites!

The plot feels more like a whirlwind of scattered drama. I don’t think that the protagonist grew or changed that much from the beginning. Her moments of reflection and development
Are shallow. She is 25 and figuring out adulthood but she also sounds very smart, she accomplished a
Lot in the book. I was hoping to hear more about those redeeming qualities Or how she endured to make her a more likable character. But her
Tendency to find emotional anguish and fault in small things so frequently kind of made it hard to finish the book. I also would’ve liked to see them Explore certain perspectives more thoroughly like race in medicine, immigrant parents and relationships, dating as a female medical professional. I was excited to see how the author explores these but didn’t get to hear much about it
So kind of disappointed. Still, if this author wrote another book, I would likely try that one just because I think she has a lot of potential
And her prose is vibrant. However, if looking for a casual listen, Mela Lee is pleasant to listen too. She is very good at representing different characters with her tone and voice modulations.
