I am no doubt spoiled by Lindsey Davis Falco series. This falls far short of those.
No real character development, not enough background. No real feel for time and place.

This series keeps getting better
Reviewed: 03-25-22
The main character in this series has grown on me. I am a devoted fan of the author’s Andy Carpenter series and originally found this main character Cory a little too much like the standard macho self absorbed leading man in many mysteries. In this book we find a much more likable man.
Cory’s wonderful partner Simon is here as are the various interesting and engaging characters from the Andy Carpenter books and previous K9 stories.
I look forward to more adventures with the K team.

Story
Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his wife, Laurie, enjoy walking their dogs, Tara and Sebastian. By this point in their marriage, it’s routine. When out for one of their strolls, their simple ritual isn’t so simple anymore. Across the street, a man is mistreating his dog. Three things happen at once: Andy yells, Laurie runs to stop the abuse, and so does a closer passerby, who so thoroughly beats the owner that both are arrested when the cops arrive.

Once again a pleasure
Reviewed: 03-20-22
I am a fan of the Andy Carpenter books. I enjoy the humor and characters both human and canine .
The location was a pleasant trip . The mystery’s solution was obvious for awhile before it occurred to Andy, but the time spent with these characters was enjoyable .
These book are such a pleasant relief from self-aggrandizing
“heroes “ and inept women.
The performance by Grover Gardner was as usual perfect.
My wishes to Mr. Rosenfelt keep these books coming, keep recusing dogs.

Story
Lady Adelaide Compton had prepared herself to say good-bye forever to Detective Inspector Devenand Hunter. It would be a welcome relief not to get mixed up in any more murders, even if it meant never working alongside the handsome detective again...wouldn't it? But then Addie's prim and proper mother, Constance, the Dowager Marchioness of Broughton, is accused of murdering her secret lover, and there can't be enough gentlemen detectives on hand to find the truth.

A complete waste of time. I had enjoyed previous books in the series and was looking forward to this.
Not only was it dull I began to dislike the main character. She was so vapid it became hard to believe she would hold anyone’s interest.
More mystery suspense and romance could be found in listening to someone read a fast food menu.

A Disappointment

The best part of listening to this convoluted , boring and confusing audio was knowing It was included in my membership and I had not paid for it.
Silliness in place of wit was matched by a requirement to believe everyone in the NYPD was a dim witted first day on the job fool.
This failed to work as mystery or as basic entertainment.

Story
Murder has come once more to the seaside town of Crab Cove, testing the mettle of “almost handsome” Detective Simon Grave and his “nearly invisible” partner, Sergeant Barry Blunt, who investigate a locked-room mystery with a significant twist: the prime suspects are in the locked room, not the victim, a logic-defying situation that challenges the team at every turn. As if murder weren’t enough, they must also investigate the simultaneous disappearance of The MacGuffin Trophy from that same locked room, the studio of artist Whitney Waters, famous for her stylized paintings of red herrings.

Not funny. Not witty. Not worth the effort.

This may have been an unusual and fun story. The main character seemed to have promise . The subordinate who blended into the background offered a new view on an often used character. A looked room with suspects inside rather than the victim seemed promising. Unfortunately the author was unable to deliver and the story was unbelievable, ponderous and boring .

Yet another dim witted female
Reviewed: 06-17-21
Is it a prerequisite , a woman who is the main character in a cozy mystery must behave as though she is incapable of rational behavior? Murder committed in the place she lives, and the next night she forgets to lock the door ? Confrontation with the murderer who is carrying a lethal weapon and she runs away from help ?
Unbelievable relationships with others.

Story
Shelby works as a dog walker in northern California, and she’s just finished up her bi-weekly trip to the park with a husky named Pluto. When she brings him back to his house, she finds his owner - Todd Burke, a well-known local businessman and founder of an organic supplements company - lying on the bathroom floor, dead. A detective arrives on the scene. As she interviews Shelby, the body is inspected by a medical examiner, and more cops search Todd’s home, it becomes clear that the victim’s life was less picture-perfect than his clean-cut persona might lead you to believe.
