I don’t give bad reviews but I think it’s fair for this one. I just kept hoping it would get better. It did not. Thank you audible for the refund. I can see why it was on sale. Not worth the money.

I started listening this morning for a six mile run— I pushed on with house and yard work, still listening. I found more and more to do just to keep going with the book. Finally tonight, with an hour and forty minutes left, I went on a bike ride— I just could not stop listening. Great story.

Story
It’s February 1976, and Odessa, Texas, stands on the cusp of the next great oil boom. While the town’s men embrace the coming prosperity, its women intimately know and fear the violence that always seems to follow. In the early hours of the morning after Valentine’s Day, 14-year-old Gloria Ramírez appears on the front porch of Mary Rose Whitehead’s ranch house, broken and barely alive. The teenager had been viciously attacked in a nearby oil field - an act of brutality that is tried in the churches and barrooms of Odessa before it can reach a court of law.

No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story...until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.

One moment June Nealon was happily looking forward to years full of laughter and adventure with her family, and the next she was staring into a future that was as empty as her heart. The Choices We Make
Reviewed: 11-13-17
I chose this book after a suggestion for other time-travel books. The premise was interesting enough--a man "dies" but wakes up as freshman in college. He then lives his life according to what he knows already. I liked it because it played out different scenarios based on his choices. It makes one think about what we would do if we could get a do-over. It had a few strange parts, but overall, I would recommend this book. It was a fun trip back in time.
