Somewhat mystical. A lot of disparate facts thrown in to justify the thesis. Couldn’t listen to the whole book.

This story of JVN weaves its way through 20th century physics without giving a linear biography of the great man. Unfortunately most of it is impossible to follow due to the narrator, whose native tongue is possibly German or Hungarian.

This is an Interesting revisitation of the history of nuclear physics in the 20th century told through the biographies of the main physicists involved. Half way through it occurred to me these geniuses were missing even a graduate level understanding of philosophy. Einstein and Bohr and Schrödinger should have invited some of the big brains in philosophy to their conferences. For all that, I found it very enjoyable.

Lots of new information about the remarkable scientists- many of them Jewish- who were brought together in New Mexico guided by Oppenheimer to put together the first first atomic bomb. Like most things American, the dazzling scientific achievement is tarnished by anti communist mania and total misunderstanding of the meaning of the bomb.

As I listened to the jumble of notions read by the nearly incomprehensible narrator I began to suspect this was a religious book cloaked in cognitive psychology. The concluding chapters leave no doubt that was the intention of the author. Waste of time.
