Israel Pike is the hero we didn’t know we needed!
This was one of the best listens I’ve had in a while. I was hooked about 30 minutes in and had a hard time stopping it when I needed to get out of the car. The ending was bittersweet but where Lyman ends up and Hatchet…. made my heart happy. Highly recommend spending a credit on this one!

Good read. Thought I had the whodunnit figured out but nope. Good twist at the end. Totally unexpected for me. Also really enjoyed that the narrative jumping from character to character was very easy to follow and didn’t cause confusion. Narrator was fantastic too. All around great listen for a long road trip.

Thank god this wasn’t my first DK book or I’d never have read any of his other work. Way too many places where being overly descriptive took away from the storyline which was not that great itself. I definitely wouldn’t recommend if you’re not an avid DK reader.

How amazing is Karin Slaughter?! If you haven’t checked out “Pieces of Her” yet, get both books and start with that one. Both are so hard to put down (or press pause). Ah, I digress… This book had me wanting to spend more time in the car just to listen. I already can’t wait until her next book!

It's a fear more paralyzing than falling. More terrifying than absolute darkness. More horrifying than anything you can imagine. It's the one fear you cannot escape, no matter where you run...no matter where you hide. It's the fear of yourself. It's real. It can happen to you. And facing it can be deadly.

For me, Koontz is pretty hit or miss. This one was a definite hit. Well developed and relatable characters, strange but not absurd. Fabulous tale of mind control and abuse of power. And there’s a clever dog. Who doesn’t love a dog!?

As the only full-time employee at the 24 hour gas station at the edge of town, Jack has pretty much seen it all. But when he decides to start an online journal documenting the bizarre day-to-day occurrences, he unwittingly attracts the attention of much more than just a few conspiracy theorists.

Oh my there was nothing about this book that I enjoyed. The story was absurd. At no point was I entertained. The narration was equally torturous for me. Dramatic pauses in places that weren’t appropriate and narrated at a painfully slow pace. I listened on 1.75 and it still got on my nerves. I was hoping for a creepy tale but this wasn’t it. If you’re looking for weird and ridiculous, this is your book.

Started a little slow for me but once it picked up, I was hooked. Jumping from one character to another was hard to follow at times if more than a day or so went by before I was able to listen. Very good storyline. Good story development with a few twists. I loved that I wasn’t able to predict the ending. The narration was too slow for me but was fine once I bumped the speed from 1.5 to 1.8. Overall, this book is worth the listen.
