Breaks from story for political agenda
Reviewed: 04-19-24
It's incredibly frustrating to have your escape from reality bring up real world politics that do not add to the story line at all. It doesn't matter which side of the political aisle you are on, that is not why I turn to a fantasy novel. Disappointing and will return.

Absolutely love this series. The humor has me constantly chuckling to myself and the final portion is more then worth the listen. I hope we have more books like it!

Isolated by Mexico's deadly Copper Canyons, the blissful Tarahumara Indians have honed the ability to run hundreds of miles without rest or injury. In a riveting narrative, award-winning journalist and often-injured runner Christopher McDougall sets out to discover their secrets. In the process, he takes his readers from science labs at Harvard to the sun-baked valleys and freezing peaks across North America, where ever-growing numbers of ultra-runners are pushing their bodies to the limit.

Not just for runners

To echo other reviews, I HATE running. I'm fascinated by the human body and what it able to adapt to. This was a epic tale that also opened my eyes to our natural ability and may have got me upping my pace a bit on my daily walks. You know, just see how it goes.

Story
Timothy Walter Bolton - better known as Timmy - has spent most of his life as a necromancer. When he isn't terrorising his enemies, he's plotting inside his castle, which is built on top of lightless chasms filled with nameless horrors and beings of a generally malevolent and megalomaniacal nature. But after one of his latest creations, a zombie hydra-dragon-bear, tries to eat him, he decides that maybe it's time to find a new, less dangerous, career.
