All Bob Hoon ever wanted was a good whisky, and some peace and quiet. But, when Hoon hears that his friend and MI5 agent, Miles Crabtree, has gone missing in the United States, he is dragged back into action once more. The hunt leads him to the Florida Everglades, and into conflict with the violent locals, the terrifying wildlife, and a Sheriff with a sinister agenda of his own.

Still fun after all these books! Brilliant author & narrator
Reviewed: 07-14-24
My review is based on the merits of the book and not on attempting to read the author's mind like one of the reviews appears to do. This book is funny, reflecting the authors unerring ability to weave a story with unerring characters, creative sweating, and with banter. And the narrator performs on spot, mostly. Intense premise wraps inside witty dialogue.

Story
On the surface, Richard Ainsworth has life where he wants it. Middle-aged navel gazing and Olympic levels of procrastination are exactly what rural life in France should be about. Then crisis hits his posh B&B when redoubtable housekeeper, Madame Tablier, is accused of murder. Even more surprisingly, it's the murder of a former fiancé, turned brother-in-law. None of which the stubborn old woman denies.

Such wit contained in this mystery
Reviewed: 06-04-24
I love this author's use of language, very picturesque ("...a grizzly bear that plays Rugby") and the many laughs caused by his wit. I always look forward to hearing updates of the believable characters and enjoy their dialog and interactions. The performance by the author is spot on and I hope to hear more from him. This series is in my favorites for repeat listens.

The sound quality on some of these challenges my ability to hear the speaker. I liked Jimmy K best because he sounded genuine and touched on many topics. I have to keep in mind the evolution of NA. Overall, my expectations of listening to a speaker were met.

Vivian Lestrange - celebrated author of the popular mystery novel The Charterhouse Case and total recluse - has apparently dropped off the face of the Earth. Reported missing by his secretary Eleanor, whom Inspector Bond suspects to be the author herself looking for publicity, it appears that crime is afoot when Lestrange's housekeeper is also found to have disappeared. Bond and Warner of Scotland Yard set to work to investigate a murder with no body and a potentially fictional victim.

I enjoyed the slight divergence. Still multiple threads of mysteries that are tied up rather well in the last chapter and perfectly narrated as always. Troy is Troy, Barnaby is human.... there's just less of these 2 and more of the thoughts of various characters. Cameo appearance of the young actors. I wonder what is next for Barnaby

The combination of JD Kirk's talent and Angus King's delivery of the author's work, lends itself to a very compelling and lol listen. I love the characters, their interaction, the inner monologue, oh yeah, and the solving of the crime(s). I have listened to these books repeatedly because the sharp humor, creative swearing, and intense, intricate plots never get old. I hope you take a chance to listen to any of the JD Kirk titles. The world seems a bit more tolerable with the talents of the author and narrator. Thank you

As always, much laughter, familiar characters, laughing, well-written story, and more laughing. Can be a stand alone book but it would be a shame to rob yourself of this author/ narrator duo. McDonnell's humorous imagination is delivered with masterful voice. This author is among my favs, like Sir Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, and anything by the Month Python crew.
