Story
Lana Fleming’s sister has vanished from the set of TV’s hottest show, and no one seems to care. Desperate for answers, Lana sneaks in as an extra, only to get stranded with Griffin Hart, an A-list action star with a reputation for good abs and bad decisions. Though Griffin didn’t expect to be cast as a librarian’s sidekick in a real-life thriller, he’s weirdly into it—and into her. Even more unsettling—she sees right through his playboy persona. But their meet-cute soon turns deadly when they uncover a Hollywood scandal for the ages.

While it took about 20 minutes to truly catch my interest, once I made it to the end of chapter one, I was happy I stuck around. Highly entertaining. Would make a good rom-com.

This ALIEN story begins where most end: with a xenomorph loose on a damaged spaceship hurtling through space. Once a highly decorated marine, Chris Temple, a recently widowed single father to two young daughters, Jane, 11, and Emma, 8, is onboard. Despite his particular set of skills, Chris doesn’t get involved in the fight with the alien, instead focusing on keeping his children safe as the ship comes in for a crash landing.

Nothing. Nothing stands out.
Reviewed: 12-15-24
Meh- it is not a bad book I guess, but it lacked proper development. I mean, a side character we only meet when they are killed monologues in their head for several minutes after the alien has already ripped their guts out(felt like AI?), but we have NO development on how the main family is joyous just a day or so after they loose everything. I guess Im biased now. Nothing is the same after reading “Aliens: Phalanx”, a novel so good I yearn for it on big screen but also don’t want it touched for fear Hollywood will screw it up.
This is an aliens novel- so it is never a waste of time tho- some will love it. Some will lament finding yet another book not as original as Phalanx! Lol

This really makes you realize how a bad person might latch onto you without you knowing it. The story was a bit disjointed at first- but this may be due to the crime itself being so unique. Narrations were well done.

Story
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Narration made story tedious
Reviewed: 10-30-24
The story was good- once I was anle to sort it out. I had to re-listen to nearly every chapter (some a third time) be I could be sure who was who. Any attempt by narrator to do a voice in character sounded painful- like he was really straining to do anything but flat reading. The characters completely lost their “character”.
That aside- it’s a good story.
**It would be well worth having the book re-recorded. I would buy it a second time just to hear it read with character voices by the last narrator.

Story
Even before the doomed mission to Hadley’s Hope on LV-426, Jenette Vasquez had to fight to survive. Born to an immigrant family with a long military tradition, she looked up to the stars, but life pulled her back down to Earth—first into a street gang, then prison. The Colonial Marines proved to be Vasquez’s way out—a way that forced her to give up her twin children. Raised by Jenette’s sister, those children, Leticia and Ramon, had to discover their own ways to survive.

“Meh”
Reviewed: 10-13-23
I will say the narrator did do justice to speaking as the original Jeanette V. Aside from that- meh. As for the author- too much melodrama. Too much time spent on non-alien issues. And not hardly any time to explain the training and time with the unit. (Probably because when friends go to boot cam together- NO ONE suddenly commands a “unit” of just a few people in the fleet. Just doesn’t happen. NO time was spent developing those relationships- but yet it was a thing. Lastly- i dont know what to say. It was overall, meh. It kinda sucked. If there was a wee bit less of the preachy/self-righteous- commentary on the history of unfairness. (It was ad nauseam) and more info presented on the actual alien threat- might be a good book.

When they discover remote Dutch Island, off-limits to outside visitors, the family talks their way onto the ferry. But as soon as they set foot on the island, which is run by a tightly knit clan of locals, everything feels wrong.

Story
Years ago, the SS Arcadia vanished without a trace during a routine voyage. Though a garbled emergency message was broadcast, neither the ship nor any of its crew could be found. Sixty years later, its wreck has finally been discovered more than 300 miles from its intended course...a silent graveyard deep beneath the ocean's surface. Cove and her dive team have been granted permission to explore the Arcadia's rusting hull. Their purpose is straightforward: examine the wreck, film everything, and, if possible, uncover how and why the supposedly unsinkable ship vanished.

Well. . . It is good

It is a good book- but if you have basic diving knowledge you will need to ignore the obvious. The author clearly did not know about the #1 rule of diving. Bit that issue aside- it is a book that is well done and it is a good scare/claustrophobic horror story. As long as you allow yourself to ignore fact that it doesn’t always follow diving facts- you’ll be fine.

Reviewed: 10-17-20
Alas, my only regret is that I did not see this play out on the big screen BEFORE reading it. (Books are almost always better than the movie- i fear a movie could disappoint after experiencing this most unique and wonderful story!) This could be an awesome movie. Or better yet- mini-series. This has basically ruined me as the bar for new books is now so freakin’ high! Well done!
