Story
The year is 1348. Thomas, a disgraced knight, has found a young girl alone in a dead Norman village. An orphan of the Black Death, and an almost unnerving picture of innocence, she tells Thomas that plague is only part of a larger cataclysm - that the fallen angels under Lucifer are rising in a second war on heaven, and that the world of men has fallen behind the lines of conflict. Is it delirium or is it faith? She believes she has seen the angels of God. She believes the righteous dead speak to her in dreams. And now she has convinced the faithless Thomas to shepherd her across a depraved landscape to Avignon.

What did I just listen to?
Reviewed: 11-02-24
The book is what I would imagine a bad acid trip might be like. It’s imaginative, violent, gruesome & then there’s a spark of hope, connection, companionship, curiosity and then the next round of crazy, unworldly, apocalyptic destruction.
Fortunately the ending was redeeming.
The main characters intriguing.
For me, the narration kept me listening in the hands of a lesser skilled narrator, I would have given up on this

This was a sappy predictable RomCom.
To the point of being very corny. The female narrator ruined it for me. It was painful listening to to especially the fake British accents. The male narrator was great. The story that took place during the war was more interesting than the priest day story. There are so many better books out there.

Story
The Overstory unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fable that range from antebellum New York to the late 20th-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. An air force loadmaster in the Vietnam War is shot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a banyan. An artist inherits 100 years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed American chestnut. A hard-partying undergraduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies, and is sent back into life by creatures of air and light.

This is a very well written, researched & thought provoking book.
There’s much to mull over & think about.
It’s powerful in its connections, people, laws, culture, nature, beliefs, truths.
In depth character development.
For me too long. I listened on speed 1.5 & that helped. Great book otherwise. Recommend

Story
One sunny August afternoon, the residents of Cedar Close throw their annual summer barbecue. Children play in the cherry-tree lined street, tables are laden with food, and the wine is flowing. For Laurie Mills, it’s her first time meeting the neighbours. And it’s the first time she discovers her husband, Robert, is having an affair. Cedar Close has always been a nice place to live - a quiet suburban street where everyone looks out for one another and bad things don’t happen. Until late one evening, when Robert Mills is found dead in his bedroom.

Kept you listening

Yes it’s warped yet interesting story & you find out who did it way in advance & have to wait for the police to catch up. It still pulls you in & keeps you listening.
The narrator makes the story no doubt. In the hands of poor narration not sure this would be as popular. The narrator develops the characters & draws a picture. Excellent job!

I liked the setting
Reviewed: 02-04-24
The story itself is very repetitive. It makes the main characters seem like idiots
A 24 y/o virgin that’s so hot & suddenly sexually experienced
The ridiculous don’t look at my woman or I’ll beat you up mentality.
Too much crying & drama & ridiculousness.
I did enjoy the Irish touch but much of that is something out of a Hallmark movie & not realty.
I’m pretty sure if a stranger walked into a room & read you the riot act in front of your friends & family, they wouldn’t smirk & say you met your match brother. 🙄

It seems like the perfect job. Great wages, accommodation provided and all located within the walls of Highwood Hall, a stunning stately home owned by the Howard family. Story
It's nearly Christmas, Julia Devine's favourite time of the year. She's just programmed a wonderful lead into the holidays at Sunny Street Cinema, which leaves her plenty of time to worry about going home to Cumbria for Christmas. Her mum and stepdad are fine, but the thought of spending another holiday with her awful stepsister Becca is enough to make a Scrooge out of anyone. When Becca calls to let her know about the dreamy pilot she's bringing to Christmas lunch, Julia finally snaps and does something very silly.
