So many feelings...
Reviewed: 09-28-20
This book opened up an emotional door for me-that I didn't know had been locked up tight. The author, in his younger years, describes his joys and his fears and everything in between so poetically. I felt like it was a story describing my own feelings at that age. And I never knew those feelings needed words. Now I realize I needed affirmation that I felt that way. I feel like a different person in the best way. Back in my day, it was said that "that's the way it was." True. It was. I do get to have feelings about it. ~Big sigh of relief.

Story
Inheritance is an audiobook about secrets - secrets within families, kept out of shame or self-protectiveness; secrets we keep from one another in the name of love. It is the story of a woman's urgent quest to unlock the story of her own identity, a story that has been scrupulously hidden from her for more than 50 years, years she had spent writing brilliantly, and compulsively, on themes of identity and family history.

From the number one best-selling author of The Cause of Death comes an audiobook about the unlikely, extraordinary, obscure and often tragic ways humans meet their demise. A dead body without a trace of trauma; alien parasites; worms of the brain; crocodile attacks and bizarre eating disorders....In The Quick and the Dead, pathologist and self-confessed death-aficionado Dr. Cynric Temple-Camp takes listeners into a world of disease and death as he seeks answers for those who were unlucky, and those still alive to tell the tale.

This is a book about real people, who have faced the ends of their lives in sometimes tragic ways. I loved that the pathologist had enough compassion for their dignity, and curiousity-to make time to get to the bottom of every case.

Story
Rachel DeLoache Williams’ new friend Anna Delvey, a self-proclaimed German heiress, was worldly and ambitious. She was also generous - picking up the tab for lavish dinners at Le Coucou, infrared sauna sessions at HigherDOSE, drinks at the 11 Howard Library bar, and regular workout sessions with a celebrity personal trainer. When Anna proposed an all-expenses-paid trip to Marrakech at the five-star La Mamounia hotel, Rachel jumped at the chance. But when Anna’s credit cards mysteriously stopped working, the dream vacation quickly took a dark turn.

Lesson Learned on naivete
Reviewed: 06-06-20
I was on the edge of my seat, practically screaming at the author when she handed her card over the second time. (Burn me once...) And I screamed louder when she handed it over for a "hold" in Morocco.
What a tough lesson on being so naive. This book was a reminder to myself to look at my own behaviors. The question about the give and take of friends, and acquaintances.
Great story-telling. I loved it.

Story
For Maureen Stanton's proper Catholic mother, the town's maximum security prison was a way to keep her seven children in line ("If you don't behave, I'll put you in Walpole Prison!"). But as the 1970s brought upheaval to America, and the lines between good and bad blurred, Stanton's once-solid family lost its way. A promising young girl with a smart mouth, Stanton turns watchful as her parents separate and her now-single mother descends into shoplifting, then grand larceny, anything to keep a toehold in the middle class for her children.

This could have been written about me!
Reviewed: 05-24-20
While I didn't go the route of substances, this story could very well have been written about my life. The very deep feelings. The silence on hard things. The tough exterior. The lack of self-confidence and esteem...especially in class when the answer is known, but cannot be spoken.
This book, for me, is one giant acknowledgement and the warmest validation to myself. I didn't know I needed it so badly until I heard it out loud.
Highly recommend.

This story is very transparent, but in an educational way. While it was painful to hear, there was nothing too graphic.
Highly recommended for learning about what happens regarding stillbirth. To a Momma's heart. It helps to know these things when sitting with loved ones in their brokenness.
