Wow. This might be one of my new favorite books. It’s a beautiful story immersed in twisty turnt suspense that keeps building until you feel like you physically can’t handle waiting to find out what happens. I almost went 2speed just to relieve the anticipatory tension in my chest. Phew. Definitely worth the credit and more.

An ideal starting point for those interested in Buddhism, Being Peace contains Thich Nhat Hanh's teachings on peace and meditation. Using real examples from his own life as well as poems and fables, Nhat Hanh explains his key practices for living "right in the moment we are alive". These lessons are taught with fine writing and sparkling phrases that draw the listener in and make Being Peace an audiobook that encourages multiple listenings.

Very well narrated. clear depiction of what it means to be mindful. to find your inner Buddha. I don’t know that I believe approaching all conflicts with love for both sides, even the oppressor, is the answer to war. For example, I just don’t believe Netanyahu would change his mind about massacring the Palestinian people if approached with the loving language of the Buddha. I don’t believe Israeli settlers would see the grim reality of their entitlement to a land occupied by Palestinians for centuries long before they arrived. Aside from this, I found this book to reinforce my connection with Buddhism, mindfulness and the importance of remembering I am part of a bigger Sangha and my practice, or lack of, impacts not just me. Highly recommend to ANYONE AND EVERYONE. Especially the Netanyahus of the world.

A zombie tale I can bite on to like a zombie on brains

Holy grail !!! What an absolute refreshing delight to read a zombie book whose main character is not a cis white man that whines about how sweaty his balls get during the apocalypse.
I have a questionable affinity for apocalyptic zombie stories and have read enough I’ve lost count. And I don’t know why it took me so long to find this gem but it’s everything I was looking for. Granted it’s not as zombie action packed as others I’ve read, like The Zombie Fallout series. But it kept me engaged just as well. I often listen while I drive around to different work sites. Multiple times, I’ve had to peeeeeel myself out of my car because I didn’t want to stop hearing the story.
It’s a slow start but most good books are. This story picks up at just the right time and the writing draws you in. It has well developed characters and relationships you become invested in. AND there’s even a little sprinkle of queer mention. My only complaint is that I’d just wish Jane and Katherine would wake up and recognize the intense chemistry between them and get together already. Isn’t that what we all

For Dee Kwan, every day is the perfect day. No, really. She has a house she loves, a job she adores, and a ridiculously attractive “nemesis” who never seems to mind when she wins their favorite online game. How can life possibly get better? (It can’t, obviously. It can only get much, much worse.) Soon Dee is forced to share her adorably cozy home with her parents and estranged grandmother. Then she’s tossed into the deep end at work, tasked with cleaning up a scandal for the intimidatingly chic luxury fashion firm Celeste. If that weren’t enough, she discovers her hot nemesis works there, too.

What the heck happened?
Reviewed: 12-31-23
I’ve been consuming Stephen King audiobooks like Nutella spread lately. So far, they’ve all been captivating and hard to put down. There have been books of his that start off slow as he develops characters and set the stage but they almost always end up picking up pace in a way that totally engulfs me in the story. This one just kept dragging on, I’d lose interest and get distracted and then would be totally confused by the time I’d tune back in. So much jumping around in terms of time and place I had no idea what was going on by the end. Thought maybe it was just me and I wasn’t being attentive enough but looking at reviews it seems I’m not alone. And the end…what in the heck ??? Seems it just suddenly ended like he was tired of his own story. Major disappointment considering my previously captivating experiences with King’s novels. I’ve listened to enough of his amazing stories to not let this make me give up on him but man I wish I hadn’t wasted my money and time on this particular one. Alas no one is perfect all the time.

Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

I actually enjoyed the awful music

This was pretty good. Not my top of the list when it comes to Stephen King but all of his work is engaging and enthralling at some point. This one felt like it took a while to build up and I couldn’t keep track of all the characters. Got a bit lost at times throughout the book as a result. But like all other SK novels I end up itching to hear/read the end! I think he did a fine job narrating. Like a really enthusiastic librarian reading a book to me at story hour but I might have found the build up more relatable and interesting if the narration was more animated. The funny synth music did help transport me to Midwest America in the 90s for some reason and I found it added to the whole production of a storyline set in the 90s.
