It took me a while to get used to the reader’s narrator’s voice, but in the end she did a good job. I’ve listened to the book in a very short amount of time, good sign. Pleasant listen, Relaxing despite the topic.

Great book, not perfect reading.
A truly remarkable re-imagining of our planet used as a trick to go deep into the theories on how to preserve our dear earth.
I loved it in paper and wanted to listen to it, I was mostly happy about this version too.

Flat and never taking off
Reviewed: 11-05-19
I had given up on Grisham a few books ago, after a series of disappointments.
I tried once more, enticed by some reviews.
Unfortunately, I’ve been again disappointed.
The story is flat, never taking off, I kept on waiting for some twist but none happened.
He just took a true story, changed parts and repackaged it, not so well either. Pity.
Only positive: the reader, truly great.
I’ll sadly return this book, but I may try others read by Michael Beck.

Same old a bene.
Ware it not for Paul Michael, this time I wouldn't even have bothered to wait till the end.
Pity. I had the same feeling after Inferno. I kept it just because it is set in Firenze, the city I live in.
This time I had enough, I will return the book.

Very good until two thirds, then... too bad the author decided to turn it into a series. This kind of story is not suitable for that. It left me with a sour taste. I may decide to return it.

Would you try another book from Blake Crouch and/or Jon Lindstrom?
yes, he wrote some good books too
What was most disappointing about Blake Crouch’s story?
I listened until the last minute, hoping... that it would find a plausible and resolute ending... but it did not happen... big delusion... not only the way BC depictd the inside and working of the box turns toward the unplaisible, but the book does not end ! The beginnign was enticing, but what a delision... I will return it. Sorry.
Have you listened to any of Jon Lindstrom’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
It's the only positive note !
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.

Finally the unabridged version of this fascinating book from James Clavell ! I've read and loved the book many years ago and now I'm starting it all over again. I will write a full review as soon as I will have finished it, for now I am very happy from part 1 to say that the reader does a great job. Being my first listen to him I was afraid, but now I'm sure he is maintaining if not enhancing the magic of the book ! Highly recommended.

Disappointing final chapter
Reviewed: 09-24-14
Would you try another book from Blake Crouch and/or Paul Michael Garcia?
Well, unlike this third book, the first two installments of wayward pines read one after the other are very very good. I liked them a lot and still reccomend them,
As per Paul Michael Garcia, he is the only one that does a good job altso in this book too.
What do you think your next listen will be?
The Child by Fitsek.
Which scene was your favorite?
The fact that I cannot find one is the strongest indicator that I did not like it.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not really. Actually it lost the chance to be great. It lost the chance to truly and fully follow and develop a few potentially great threads. It seemed clear to me that Blake Crouch when writing this book was already in the mindset of a neverending (but superficial) TV series instead of keeping the good job he did in the first two books. Such a pity.Maybe he was under pressure by the editor too, I don't know...

Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Starting as 2.5 stars because while very interesting in science it remains too confined in the initial one character setup... Starting from when the parallel multiple character earth setup gets in you appreciate the need and credibility of the beginning... From then on it grew on me and I ended up not wanting to stop the narration till the end.Very good reader in the end, same flop of appreciating him more and more as it goes...In the end I vote 4, also as encouragement to the author...
