Story
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Lovely memoir
Reviewed: 01-14-23
In the recounting of his life, Prince Harry is letting us glimpse the world and toxic system he was born into. It’s one he didn’t choose, but had to find a way to navigate and survive. I’m overjoyed that he has found the love he has been seeking since he lost his mother. Spare is an honest rendering of a life well lived and one of service to his Queen and to his country. Spare contains the highest of highs and lowest of lows. It saddens me that the RF have used him and his wife like expendable pawns in their game with the tabloids. There is dysfunction in every family, but it’s clear that in the RF, it’s amplified by extreme greed, lust for power, and jealousy. Although he now resides in the USA, we know that his heart and loyalty lay with his homeland. I hope one day that his family and country will extend him the grace that he’s found here with Meghan.
Princess Diana is smiling down on him with pride and love. I hope writing his memoir and sharing it with the world that Prince Harry finds the peace he seeks and deserves.

Narration was below average
Reviewed: 02-28-22
I enjoyed the story, but the narration was almost too painful to listen too. The accents were terrible and the delivery was below average. The female narrator has the voice and style for books geared for teens. The male voice was a little too old for this character and his female voices were bad.
It’s hard to take the story seriously because of the juvenile delivery by the main narrator.

This is a well written book which held my attention and sucked me in. My only complaint would be that it ends a little abruptly. The one thing this book could use is an epilogue.

Immaculate conception?
Reviewed: 10-28-21
This novel completely skimmed over the wooing of Akira by Bryce. They kiss a couple of times, but nowhere in the book is there a reference to them finally consummating their relationship. In the end Bryce has profuse apologizing to do in order to make conception believable, but that’s missing too. Meh.

The performance was not the beat. The characters’ voices were ok, but the delivery of the narrator (majority of book) was off. The cadence and the intonation was distracting.
The storyline had potential, but it seemed like it was being stretched out.

Story
Riotous, sexy and groundbreaking, Henry Fielding's Joseph Andrews: The History of the Adventures of Joseph Andrews and His Friend Mr. Abraham Adams, published in 1742, was one of the first English novels. Fielding was melding and parodying the two major forces battling for control of the fiction market at the time - the mock heroic, neoclassical tradition as practiced by Pope and Swift and the popular and populist fiction of the new novelists such as Defoe and Richardson.

Rufus Sewell is the only reason I was able to get through the entire book. His reading of it is excellent. He brought the characters to life. The story itself lost my attention a few times, but I’m glad I stuck it out as it was an enjoyable and funny book.
