The Hayholt is in flames. Once the home of the immortal Sithi, now capital of the kingdom of men, the fabled castle has been set ablaze by vengeful Norns. And as the world is distracted by this devastating attack against humankind, the Norns' deathless witch-queen Utuk'ku reaches out to seize the fateful, ogre-haunted valley called Tanakirú—the Vale of Mists. Fooled by the Norn Queen’s trickery, Simon and the Sitha Jiriki must now leave the burning castle behind to race to the forbidden valley.

Disappointed
Reviewed: 11-18-24
I waited excitedly for the ending this tale and I’m sadly disappointed. So much filler with boring dialogue and not enough story… it’s like a sad melodramatic romance. Rushes to an ending that tries to tie up everything. Disappointing…

Unrealized potential

I really wanted to like this but I’m not sure if it was that the story was too simplistic, characters were one dimensional or the narrator was just reading with the same intonation and not pausing for punctuations… I eventually gave up listening

In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

The thing about good audiobooks is that you need a good narrator. Someone who not only reads well, but does awesome character voices, so that you can tell which characters are talking. Sigh… unfortunately it’s like he is rushing through and using the same voice for all the characters. Too bad. I liked the Cradle series (great story and narration) and I was hoping this trilogy would be as good an audiobook.

I couldn’t get through the first chapter. I know it’s a book set during the US civil war period...but goodness. I cringed every time I heard them call a black person “darky” or the “N” word was thrown out. And it was thrown a lot! I didn’t know exactly what I was getting into when they said originally dialogue... Not my cup a tea...

Confused and disappointed
Reviewed: 12-27-17
I really wanted to like this book, and was excited about the other books in the series. I liked the idea of a complexed plot, but this story had too much of something and it was also lacking in character development. I’m not sure if it’s the narrator or the story but it didn’t live up to expectations. I’m left confused and disappointed... thinking I’ll skip the other books in the series.
