Story
Long based in Chicago, Iliana and her new wife, Anna, decided to create a culinary destination, the Milkweed Inn, located in Michigan’s remote Upper Peninsula, where much of the food served to their guests would be foraged by Regan herself in the surrounding forest and nearby river. Part fresh challenge, part escape, Regan’s move to the forest was also a return to her rural roots, in an effort to deepen the intimate connection to nature and the land that she had long expressed as a chef, but experienced most intensely growing up.

Nostalgic Midwest Read

Listening to this book was a great experience coming from someone who has called The U.P. my home since 1999. It's funny how most of us have lived through similar stories and experiences.
Read this book, especially if you live in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It's a crunchy nature read that will bring you back to feelings of your childhood - good and bad.
Since reading this, I've already recommended it to half a dozen friends. Well done, Lane.

Story
For much of the 20th and 21st centuries, women’s sexuality was an uncharted territory in science, studied far less frequently - and far less seriously - than its male counterpart. That is, until Emily Nagoski’s Come As You Are, which used groundbreaking science and research to prove that the most important factor in creating and sustaining a sex life filled with confidence and joy is not what the parts are or how they’re organized but how you feel about them.

Story
We congratulate ourselves when we resist the donut in the office breakroom. We celebrate our restraint when we hold back from sending an email in anger. We feel virtuous when we wake up at dawn to get a jump on the day. We put others’ needs ahead of our own and believe this makes us exemplary. In On Our Best Behavior, journalist Elise Loehnen explains that these impulses—often lauded as unselfish, distinctly feminine instincts—are actually ingrained in us by a culture that reaps the benefits, via an extraordinarily effective collection of mores known as the Seven Deadly Sins.

I thought this book was extremely insightful. I've just put it down and I already can't wait to reread it and study each chapter individually. This book shines a new light on the 7 deadly sins and how we should embrace and sit with each one, rather than cast them out. An excellent book that I would highly recommend.

Story
At some point, we have to admit when we’re living a life less than the one we know we were meant to live. If even the smallest voice inside connects with that statement, then Decision Permission is what you’re seeking. That same voice challenged the author to lead a more fulfilling life by choosing divorce, surviving the fall out, and rising from the rubble more herself than she had ever been before. Her storytelling is anchored in her experience, but the lessons she imparts are universal.

Taking Self Help to a Whole New Level
Reviewed: 01-25-24
I'm a sucker for a good self help book, and have read my fair share over the past few years, but Decision Permission taps into such an intimate part of your mind. The deep dig into fear provided me with a healthy new outlook on my own fears which seem to be more prevalent as I work my way through my late 20s.
Kristy's narration was also spot on, engaging and refreshing - not a lot of authors can write the book AND read it well.
Looking forward to getting a physical copy so I can reread and properly track each step in the Decision Permission process.
