Story
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Why would she do this?

This is not the same. I cannot believe the author decided to change the narrator after 18 books for no good reason. The other narrator is still available. What did she think was going to happen? It is like she has no understanding of audiobook fans whatsoever. I tried to return the book but Audible would not let me because I paid for it apart from my credits. I will not buy more if they don’t get our beloved narrator back.

I ended up not liking her. She was exhausting. The book cover shows a gal with hair almost down to her butt and the description in the book is of a woman with short hair. Small but annoying.
The pastor and his sinning was real but disappointing. I can understand the initial fall but the ongoing sleeping with her and then getting up and preaching a sermon (week after week) was not in his character. The author did not even show that it bothered him all that much.
The author did show insight into Christian belief in a few areas.

This book only takes place in a one-week timeframe. The amount of sex and sex talk in this book was ridiculous. I like a good story that does not have to rely on sex scenes to get the readers to keep going. It is like a comedian who can only be funny by being vulgar and cussing. You had the start of a decent story. You did not need the crutch. Believe in your ability to keep us interested with your story.

Loved the information and ideas. Was a little heavy on statistics at times. Also the author reads the book and is not a professional drama reader so inflection is missing. Well worth it!

Story
Every so often a character so captures the hearts and imaginations of listeners that he seems to take on a life of his own long after the final chapter. For such a character, one book is not enough—listeners must know what happens next. Now Dean Koontz returns with the novel his fans have been demanding. With the emotional power and sheer storytelling artistry that are his trademarks, Koontz takes up once more the story of a unique young hero and an eccentric little town in a tale that is equal parts suspense and terror, adventure and mystery—and altogether irresistibly odd.

Once presided over by a flamboyant Hollywood mogul during the Roaring ’20s, the magnificent West Coast property known as Roseland is now home to a reclusive billionaire financier and his faithful servants. And, for the moment, it’s also a port in the storm for Odd Thomas and his traveling companion, the inscrutably charming Annamaria. In the wake of Odd’s most recent clash with lethal adversaries, the opulent manor’s comforts should be welcome. But there’s far more to Roseland than meets even the extraordinary eye of Odd, who soon suspects it may be more hell than haven.

Only a handful of fictional characters are recognized by first name alone. Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas is one such literary hero, who has come alive in listeners’ imaginations as he explores the greatest mysteries of this world and the next with his inimitable wit, heart, and quiet gallantry. Now Koontz follows Odd as he is drawn onward, to a destiny he cannot imagine.
