On the one hand, you definitely see many of the jokes coming. But on the other hand, that just gives you extra time to enjoy the satisfying punchline that greets you at the end like a warm hug from an old friend.
And it makes the jokes you DON’T see coming that much more surprising.

Story
No one wants to overeat. And certainly no one wants to overeat for years, become overweight, and end up with a high risk of diabetes or heart disease--yet two thirds of Americans do precisely that. Even though we know better, we often eat too much. Why does our behavior betray our own intentions to be lean and healthy? The problem, argues obesity and neuroscience researcher Stephan J. Guyenet, is not necessarily a lack of willpower or an incorrect understanding of what to eat.

"Author's Preferred Text" maybe not the best version.
Reviewed: 06-03-17
The main character had no depth at all. Even other characters in the book call him out for how blandly nonreactive he is.
We keep being introduced to other characters about whom we are supposed to care, but I never found much reason to.
To the extent that there is a plot, it is thin and seems stretched out over way too much story.
The "Coming to America" chapters are fantastic, as vignette short stories, but the overall novel they are in is a sprawling train wreck.
The original edit of the book might be substantially better. If you have been meaning to check this book out, I would recommend that version. This version is a mess.

Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?

This book takes the classic formula from The Wizard of Oz and Weaves in a little bit from every corner of high fantasy fiction.
It's not particularly good, but it is a fun way to pass the time.
The voice actor does a terrific job with multiple characters, but there are weird inconsistencies in the way various names are pronounced.

Interesting Plot Twist, but not worth it.
Reviewed: 09-20-16
Starts out feeling like a Dexter ripoff, then twists into something significantly different.
Because the narration is from the first person perspective of a sociopath who doesn't understand emotions, he becomes essentially the only character in the book, because all other characters are presented to us through that lens.
I am pretty sure the writing is bad, but I am 100 percent positive the narration is bad. The vocal choices were not wrong at every turn, but at enough points to make listening difficult.
Some of the story choices were very interesting, but not enough to make this worth your time or money.

"What should we have for dinner?" To one degree or another, this simple question assails any creature faced with a wide choice of things to eat. Anthropologists call it the omnivore's dilemma. Choosing from among the countless potential foods nature offers, humans have had to learn what is safe, and what isn't. Today, as America confronts what can only be described as a national eating disorder, the omnivore's dilemma has returned with an atavistic vengeance.
