Story
Who am I? I've forgotten the answer to that question long ago. Ever since I ran from that house, so desperate to escape, I left with only the clothes on my back and socks on my feet. After that day, I've only ever walked in stolen shoes.

A fun, super spicy thriller!

I've never read anything by this author, but I might read more now... very, very hot stuff. The FMC can't be kind of corny, but the other characters make up for it.
Excellent narration... with one exception: about halfway through, the male narrator gets lost in his accents 😂 He gets back on track though and knocks it out of the park in every way.

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

Jill seems like a sweet, smart, kind woman. I'm glad she wears pants now.
She was WAYYYY too soft on her awful family. You read a book like this to hear details and insights from the author/subject that you can't get anywhere else... thats not necessarily what this is. I've never watched any of the Duggars' show, so maybe it's feel differently if I had.

Story
It is 1917, in that sliver of borderland that divides Georgia from Alabama. Dispossessed farmer Pearl Jewett ekes out a hardscrabble existence with his three young sons: Cane (the eldest, handsome, intelligent); Cob (short, heavyset, a bit slow); and Chimney (the youngest, thin, ill-tempered). Several hundred miles away in Southern Ohio, a farmer by the name of Ellsworth Fiddler lives with his son, Eddie, and his wife, Eula.

This is a great book. Pollack weaves characters and events together in such a beautiful and poetic way.
Pollack set the bar very, very high with his first book. Heavenly Table is not as good... but there aren't many books that are as remarkably beautiful and dark as Devil All The Time.

I liked this book - the story & the characters are dynamic and interesting, as they always are with David Joy's writing.
Macleod Andrews narration brings this book and its characters to life in a way that is hard to explain. He could bring depth and profundity to a buzzfeed listicle.

Imagine if Oliver Twist grew up to be a fat rapist in fancy pajamas. Such an entertaining lil dumpster fire!!
Originally heard this story on the Swindled Podcast over a year ago. When I heard it on Dateline recently, I was astonished to see that he's still carrying on with this farce. Jane seems to be an ethical and persistent journalist, occasionally overly dramatic, but tells a great story.
How many ways do you have to prove this guy is a liar?!

Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers? She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Considering this book was written by a white Jewish man, I think George Newbern did a wonderful job narrating.

Story
The idyllic quiet of a picture postcard English village is shattered when a book club member is murdered by his former student and lover. But why would anyone kill a retired English teacher, a pillar of his community? Perhaps the answer lies in the trail of writing that he, and his killer, left behind: diaries, poems and novels. Documentary maker Gillian Pachter lifts the lace curtain to reveal a secret wedding, sordid affairs, drug abuse and psychological torture. She enlists the help of James, a former student of the victim, to try and uncover the truth.

Naive journalist...
Reviewed: 11-16-21
For a narrator that starts this series talking about her career as a crime journalist, she seems to be completely scandalized by the lies of a convicted murderer, infidelity, and celibate old queens fantasizing about younger guys. This story (like a lot of Audible podcasts) is a few episodes too long and shoves too much of the narrators personal story down your throat.
It's fine. It's just.... fine.
