After picking up one of his books, I quickly picked up two more. This is the second. I love his approach and genuine care about the craft and care of spreading his helpful mindset.

Story
You cannot bounce back from hardship. You can only move through it. There is a path through pain to wisdom, through suffering to strength, and through fear to courage if we have the virtue of resilience. In 2012, Eric Greitens unexpectedly heard from a former SEAL comrade, a brother-in-arms he hadn’t seen in a decade. Zach Walker had been one of the toughest of the tough. But ever since he returned home from war to his young family in a small logging town, he’d been struggling. Without a sense of purpose, plagued by PTSD, and masking his pain with heavy drinking, he needed help. Zach and Eric started writing and talking nearly every day, as Eric set down his thoughts on what it takes to build resilience in our lives.

I thank the author for his service for our country and for helping his friend. There is some good advice in this book, but this format just doesn’t work. Several times, I caught myself thing, ‘I hope he didn’t really word his advice in this way to his hurting friend.’ It feels like it is more about the author than heling others. I am giving a score of 3 as to not hurt the ranking too kuch in case it can help others. But I do feel that many people who are truly looking for help would be turned off by the tone.

Great ideas for teachers and other leaders
Reviewed: 01-08-20
I initially started listening for ways of how I can be supportive of other teachers. I started realising that there are several applications that I can try in my own classroom.
This book is the perfect length for busy professionals. It is short enough that it is not a big to-do item, yet long enough to have clarity on the ideas and listen to stories to make the ideas stick.
We spend about 1/3 of our waking hours at work and roughly 1/3 of workers don't like their job. Anything that we can do to decrease fear in the workplace and increase joy is worth considering.

Amazon mailed my physical book to the other side of the world. It was my fault so I bought the Digital book as well. Loved it. When I saw that the audio book was released yesterday, I realized that i want this super-mobile version on my ears as well so that this message remains in my head.
This book is a perfect combination of alignment with my core teaching philosophy as well as an important, somewhat gentle push in the direction where I want to go so that I can be a better leader in my classroom.
His excellent use of visual language and metaphors have lingered in my head and lead me ti take action both during classes and during the sometimes grueling planning sessions late at night.
There is no bad time to read or listen to this book. However, I do strongly suggest it for mid-year breaks or reenergize teachers.
I will be gifting this audiobook to others.

Story
In this eloquent and persuasive book, Neil Postman examines the deep and broad effects of television culture on the manner in which we conduct our public affairs, and how "entertainment values" have corrupted the very way we think. As politics, news, religion, education, and commerce are given less and less expression in the form of the printed word, they are rapidly being reshaped to suit the requirements of television.
