When Benny arrived in his life, Galaxy was a down-and-out rock musician with not too much more going on than a part-time job at an animal shelter and a drug problem. Benny's previous owner brought the cat to the shelter in a cardboard box to give him up.

Written in the same comedic style as the New York Times best sellers Sparkly Green Earrings and The Antelope in the Living Room, Nobody's Cuter Than You is a laugh-out-loud look at the special bond that exists between friends and a poignant celebration of all the extraordinary people God had the good sense to bring into our lives at exactly the right moments.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this book to a friend because the characters are simply not interesting.
Would you recommend Nobody's Cuter Than You to your friends? Why or why not?
Neither would I recommend the book to a group of friends...because most of them already know the lessons elucidated here.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Melanie Shankle?
No.
Do you think Nobody's Cuter Than You needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. I would prefer to follow a group of smarter, higher-achieving, more complex girls through the years.
Any additional comments?
This book is about BFFs who grow up, go to college, and remain connected. Through a series of predictable challenges, they use lessons learned in Sunday school to cope and even triumph. This is all well and good, but the girls, including the heroine, are simply not admirable or even interesting.

What would cause a cheese-loving, meat-eating lawyer to become a vegan? Her dog. Teresa Rhyme and Seamus the beagle both survived cancer once, so when Seamus develops yet another cancer, Teresa vows to fight again. Unsure of the best way to battle the unseen enemy, she embarks on some experiments to create a healthier life for her family. She finds better food for Seamus, and a plant-based diet becomes her own guide, but she realizes that's not enough for her-and it's not enough for the animals.

Charming, cozy true story
Reviewed: 05-29-15
Would you listen to The Dogs Were Rescued (And So Was I) again? Why?
I would listed to this book again because it feels good to read/hear of precious, loving canines who can regard run-of-the-mill neurotic humans with unconditional acceptance and affection. The next best thing to having a dog to pet is to read about one, no make that two.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character was Comet, a little Beagle boy rescued from a testing lab. He was a bit introverted and rather droll.
Which scene was your favorite?
I enjoyed the scene in which Teresa and Chris realize that Daphne is their forever Beagle.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It would be possible to listen to this book in one sitting, but it was more pleasant to take a couple of days on and off.
Any additional comments?
Teresa Rhyne, who says she's a trusts and estates lawyer, should use better grammar. Her pronouns are incorrect. She should either learn to use them correctly or get a better editor. Each use of an erroneous pronoun was jarring.

Good info for addicts & their families
Reviewed: 05-03-15
What did you love best about The Addictive Personality?
The last part, which focused on the prevalence of shame in the alcoholic family.
What other book might you compare The Addictive Personality to and why?
A different, but not wholly inconsistent, view appears in "The Heart of Addiction" by Lance Dodes, MD, a psychiatrist. While "The Addictive Personality" appears to be completely consistent with the AA philosophy, Dr. Dodes' book shines the light on the feelings of the addict during the moments before he succumbs to his desire to act out his addiction. Both views are helpful and even necessary.
Which scene was your favorite?
The last part, which highlights the shame that accompanies addiction and that exists in the families of addicts.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The last part hit me between the eyes.

A meaningful read.

Worth listening and re-listening
Reviewed: 05-01-15
What made the experience of listening to The Hip Chick's Guide to Macrobiotics the most enjoyable?
The Hip Chick knows all about macrobiotics. She was in a top spot at the Kushi Institute, and she has many years of experience living and cooking the macrobiotic way. Her delivery is spirited, and she reveals a treasury of information that otherwise could take years, not hours, to glean and assimilate.
What other book might you compare The Hip Chick's Guide to Macrobiotics to and why?
"The Complete Macrobiotic Diet" by Denny Waxman is also excellent. His book emphasizes more of the spiritual and lifestyle sides of macrobiotics. Unfortunately, it does not come in an audio version.
What about Jessica Porter’s performance did you like?
Her spirit and sense of humor.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, there was too much information to absorb in one sitting. It was worth a second listening. I'm contemplating another listening in case I missed something.
Any additional comments?
Jessica's book gives me the confidence to approach and initiate myself into macrobiotic cooking and life. It was great -- a real inspiration!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Nothing. The author was not well versed in macrobiotics. Her career apparently consists of "investigating" various diet plans and explaining them (badly) to an audience. Never again!
What could Stacey Turner have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Gotten the facts straight before she wrote the book. She went off half-cocked.
How could the performance have been better?
Hiring a different narrator would have been helpful, although the quality of the book rendered it un-salvageable.
What character would you cut from Macrobiotics Diet Plan: Complete Guide to a Healthy Lifestyle?
The author and the narrator. The book was not well done on any level.
Any additional comments?
