Story
A pig flying through marshmallow clouds to a marzipan moon? A camel pirouetting through the desert? Where can a listener find such marvelous things but in a fable? In this collection, short, original fables with fresh, unexpected morals poke subtle fun at human foibles through the antics of animals.

Excellent Story

The story is wonderful, absolutely lovely. But the reader was only ok. It's not that she had a bad sounding voice. She couldn't do voices for the different characters, though, which took away from the fineness of the story.

The story is stunning, and the narrator did a superb job. The only unfortunate thing is the music. It was almost unbearable. Terrible production idea.

Story
Brilliantly executed and compulsively listenable, Unsheltered is the story of two families, in two centuries, who live at the corner of Sixth and Plum, as they navigate the challenges of surviving a world in the throes of major cultural shifts. In this mesmerizing story told in alternating chapters, Willa and Thatcher come to realize that though the future is uncertain, even unnerving, shelter can be found in the bonds of kindred - whether family or friends - and in the strength of the human spirit.

Jamie MacFarlane has returned a hero from the Great War but with a stubborn chest wound. The government has sent him to their new thermal springs hospital in California "where it was hoped that the brilliant sunshine, the fruits, and the clean air, the eternal summer of a beneficent land" would heal him. But nothing has worked, and with his parents now deceased and no one to care for him, it seems the next step is a camp rife with tuberculosis. Realizing this, Jamie begins his great adventure on foot toward the ocean.

Always excellent
Reviewed: 04-26-23
This story never gets old. One reviewer said the story is about nothing. I disagree. This is a story about marriage politics at a time when women were decorations for their husbands, and incapable of providing for themselves because of the way society was structured at that time. A family with five daughters, whose wealth could not legally be passed down to them because they were women... that's a big topic.
Also, the reader was brilliant.

Story
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.
