Story
Thorgrim Night Wolf and his men, hunkered down behind their ad hoc defenses and facing off against the powerful army of Æthelwulf, king of Wessex, must find some means to continue their voyage home. But Æthelwulf, too, is trapped, unable to set sail on his pilgrimage to Rome while the powerful fleet of Northmen remains at his doorstep. It's only when the enigmatic Felix proposes a solution, acceptable to both sides, that the impasse is broken.

Nelson is good and he really hit the mark this time. As usual, I can’t wait for story to continue. I must find out where the Roman map leads the Northmen.

Excellent on brain trauma

Total disagreement with Rocky. But I was initially a bit put off because of the episodic format. The science provided is great for the lay person and the personal episodes are so charged with emotion I often had to stop and catch my breath. The symptoms described apply to more than repeated brain trauma: idiopathic and infections. The correlation was excellent.

Story
An activist attorney is killed in a cute little L.A. trolley called Angels Flight, far from Harry Bosch's Hollywood turf. But the case is so explosive - and the dead man's enemies inside the L.A.P.D. are so numerous - that it falls to Harry to solve it. Now the streets are superheating. Harry's year-old Vegas marriage is unraveling. And the hunt for a killer is leading Harry to another high-profile L.A. murder case, one where every cop had a motive. The question is, did any have the guts?

Hey….I liked the narration. Only picked up on one minor mis-pronunciation. That degree of accuracy is extraordinary! Bosch stories are always consistent. A good who-dunnit escape novel. A little sex and a little violence but it is done sparingly so as not to overwhelm or detract from the story. The mark of a pro.

Story
The whole of Western natural philosophy is undergoing a sea change, forced upon us by the experimental findings of quantum theory. At the same time, these findings have increased our doubt and uncertainty about traditional physical explanations of the universe's genesis and structure. Biocentrism completes this shift in worldview, turning the planet upside down again with the revolutionary view that life creates the universe instead of the other way around.

From insulin comas and lobotomy to incarceration and exile, Walter Brown chronicles the troubling history of the diagnosis and (often ineffective) treatment of bipolar disorder through the centuries, before the publication of a groundbreaking research paper in 1949. Cade's "Lithium Salts in the Treatment of Psychotic Excitement" described, for the first time, lithium's astonishing efficacy at both treating and preventing the recurrence of manic-depressive episodes, and would eventually transform the lives of patients, pharmaceutical researchers, and practicing physicians worldwide.

A fine and well told story.

I suspect the major downside will be not enough readers with a keen interest in the Lithium story and the personalities that shaped it. The narration is superb. The book is not a thriller or a drama. Although some of each could have been written in. I’d like to see it on a bit larger stage than the niche market where I believe it will forever reside. The story deserves a second chance.
